1001 Nights

El Sendebar es un texto hispánico traducido del árabe en 1253, cuyo origen aún es fuertemente debatido, entre otras razones porque se desconoce la fuente de la que se realizó la traducción al castellano. En este trabajo se llevará a cabo un cotejo de la estructura de su relato marco con las versiones presentes en Las mil y una noches y Las cien y una noches con el objetivo de analizar el nivel de cercanía entre estos textos, con la esperanza de aportar claridad e información a un texto tan fascinante como enigmático.

En 1908 comenzó a realizarse, en España, un grandioso proyecto editorial, la Enciclopedia universal ilustrada europeo-americana, conocida como «la enciclopedia Espasa» o «la Espasa», un referente cultural castellano durante el pasado siglo. En 1918 apareció el tomo 35, dedicado a parte de la letra eme, donde se incluía un artículo, anónimo y de cierta extensión, acerca de las Mil y una noches, donde, si bien se hacía una valoración irregular de la obra, se reconocía su relevancia y significación, algo que no había que dar por supuesto en el panorama cultural español de la época. En dicho artículo se comenzaba por definir las Noches como una «compilación árabe de cuentos procedentes de los orígenes más diversos, realizada en el período de los mamelucos de Egipto». A continuación, se encuadraba la obra desde una perspectiva racial, o, más bien, racista, pues se la derivaba de «la tendencia innata de las literaturas semíticas a la anécdota, a lo individual y particular», al tiempo que se hablaba de «ausencia de idealidad», de una «religión pobrísima» y de «la pobre raza árabe». Sin embargo, se le reconocía a la colección un gran valor en la literatura universal «por ser muchos de sus cuentos obras maestras de la ficción humana». Esa visión universal es la probable justificación de que los orígenes (no árabes) de muchos de las historias contenidas en la obra constituyan la parte principal del artículo, que concluye examinando rápidamente las ediciones españolas de las Noches, de las que se afirma que, dado que «no se fundan en el texto original», no tienen «valor científico». Se mencionan así las versiones realizadas a mediados del siglo XIX, a partir de las versiones alemana de Gustav Weil, y francesa de Antoine Galland, así como la que por aquellos años estaba publicando. / In 1908, a grandiose publishing project began to take shape in Spain: the Universal Illustrated European-American Encyclopedia, known as the “Espasa Encyclopedia” or “Espasa”, a cultural reference point in Spanish throughout the last century. In 1918, volume 35 appeared, dedicated to part of the letter E, which included an anonymous and lengthy article about the Arabian Nights, where, although the work was given an irregular assessment, its relevance and significance were recognized, something that should not be taken for granted in the Spanish cultural panorama of the time. The article began by defining the Nights as an “Arabic compilation of stories from the most diverse origins, made in the period of the Mamluks of Egypt”. The work was then framed from a racial, or rather racist, perspective, as it was derived from “the innate tendency of Semitic literatures to the anecdotal, the individual and the particular”, while at the same time referring to “the absence of ideality”, a “very poor religion” and “the poor Arab race”. However, the collection was recognized as having great value in universal literature “because many of its stories are masterpieces of human fiction.” This universal vision is probably the reason why the (non-Arab) origins of many of the stories contained in the work constitute the main part of the article, which concludes by quickly examining the Spanish editions of the Nights, which are said to have “no scientific value” because they are “not based on the original text”. Mention is thus made of the versions produced in the mid-19th century, based on the German version by Gustav Weil and the French version by Antoine Galland, as well as the one he was publishing at that time.

This paper examines the harmful effects of gender imbalance on males and females in Ethiopia, exploring cultural, societal, and systemic factors that perpetuate inequality. It highlights the physical, emotional, and economic consequences of toxic masculinity, female discrimination, and harmful traditional practices. Strategies for fostering gender equity and breaking down stereotypes are also discussed, offering a pathway toward healthier relationships, empowered communities, and a balanced society.

A pesar de la cantidad inmensa de regiones que componen el mundo, gracias a la traducción, se ha posibilitado la llegada de textos literarios a territorios diferentes de los originales. Es el caso de la obra oriental titulada Las mil y una noches, la cual analizaremos con detalle en este trabajo. Para este análisis se han seleccionado principalmente tres fuentes para enfocar el tema, la reseña de Borges, el estudio de Vernet y el artículo de Littmann en la Encyclopaedia of Islam. A continuación, nos centraremos en seleccionar un cuento determinado, Las esclavas de diferentes colores, para proyectarlo en las diferentes traducciones, la de Blasco Ibáñez, Cansinos Assens y Joan Vernet. This paper analyzes the social-psychological phenomenon of Self-fulfilling Prophecy (SFP) through The Arabian Nights, and the feminist Young Adult (YA) literature. Significantly, the literature of two extreme ages and cultures provides universal messages. Application of Social-Neuroscience concept of Predictive Processing (PP) simplifies the understanding of SFP. In the troubled age of One Thousand and One Nights, Scheherazade narrated strange and intriguing tales to King Shahryar. The folktales provided a unique insight towards peacefully resolving a dreadful conflict. Ignorant of the supposition or reality of the gripping stories, the absolute ruler meditated on Scheherazade's recitals like a follower. Her mesmerizing presence and tapestry of words calmed him. The Emperor gave up his ruthless decisions of executing a woman every day, and he developed a sense of forbearance with her stories as they helped him to transcend the mistrust of women. Today's YA texts are also like Scheherazade's narratives in tough times. The nobility of thoughts, courage to lead, and critical analysis can help humankind to emerge in a brave new world. Through her brilliant wit, leadership, care, and didactic philosophy, Scheherazade elevated herself from a 'storytelling slave' to 'First Feminist'. The Arabian Nights resembles the innovative literary universe of YA literature with absorbing themes, current world issues, mythological adaptations, and speculative fiction. Reading about female leaders in YA literature awakens the world towards alternative solutions to critical world problems. These texts cultivate vital thinking and problem-solving skills in adolescents preparing for adulthood.

Literary and cultural criticism has historically held a highly dichotomous perception of Mexican author Elena Garro, generally more interested in making value judgments about her life than in analyzing her literature. In this essay, I defend that the analysis of her intimate archive gives us new methodological tools for archival research that, far from reproducing patriarchal approximations of her work, accepts ambiguity and chaos as an inherent part of her public persona. By analyzing both the documents held in the collection "Elena Garro Papers: 1935-1998," which Garro donated to Princeton University, and the "missing" parts of her archive, still in the hands of private owners, this article brings to the fore the material dimension of the author's struggle to be recognized as a serious writer. I argue that Garro's curatorship of her intimate archive illuminates the strategies (gambits) needed to solidify her place as a female author in literary history.

The present study examines the use of the termʿishq (passionate love) in the Guide of the Perplexed 3, 51 against the background of the terms designating various degrees of love in classical Arabic literature, whereʿishq receives the meaning of the most powerful type of love, whose main characteristics are exclusivity and totality. Textual analysis indicates that Maimonides’ source of inspiration in forming his concept ofʿishq as the highest degree of devotion was the monumental work The Revival of the Religious Sciences (Iḥyāʾʿulūm aldīn) by the Muslim mystic, theologian and jurisprudent Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazālī (d. 1111).

Surprisingly, however, the genre of frame stories or jest narrative collection was strongly developed also by numerous German and Italian poets (Johannes Pauli, Georg Wickram, Gian Francesco Straparola), but their works have been mostly overlooked in that context. As important as Boccaccio's contribution was for future literary history, this paper argues that we must not neglect the works by major sixteenth-century writers who developed their own entertaining and didactic literature and relied heavily on the concept of the frame story, often inspired by Boccaccio. This approach also opens new perspectives toward vernacular narratives composed neither in a humanist vein nor under the influence of the Protestant Reformation. In particular, those vast and highly popular story collections belong to a period that tends to be overlooked both by medievalists and Baroque specialists because they occupy a sort of 'third space,' entertaining and instructing at the same time.

Vesga y Castillo (1972) reportan el primero de ellos en la vereda La Pizarra, otro cuerpo del cual no se tenían referencias bibliográficas aparece en la vereda Las Delicias. Petrográficamente las rocas son sienitas nefelínicas, monzosienitas nefelínicas y granofels de feldespato y nefelina constituidas por microclina, nefelina, plagioclasa ± biotita ± arfvedsonita como minerales principales y como minerales accesorios fluorita, esfena, apatito, granate, circón, epidota y calcita. Las rocas presentan un carácter mixto de texturas y estructuras ígneas en el cuerpo La Pizarra y metamórficas heredadas (restitas) que predominan en el cuerpo Las Delicias, permitiendo sugerir un ambiente de formación a partir de procesos de anatexia. Las rocas geoquímicamente muestran una naturaleza alcalina, localizándose dentro del campo de rocas formadas en ambiente de intraplaca. Se determinó por los métodos U/Pb en circón y 40 Ar/ 39 Ar (HS) en biotita una edad de 577.8 ± 6.3 -9 Ma (Ediacaran) de cristalización y 494±5 Ma (Furoginiano) de enfriamiento.

Chubut, afloran cuerpos ígneos básicos de carácter alcalino con estructuras de stocks, sills, lopolitos y diques, con edades comprendidas entre el Eoceno y Pleistoceno. En este trabajo, se presentan los resultados obtenidos del estudio efectuado en los cerros Negro, Cresta-Puricelli, Guacho, Solo, San Bernardo, Cresta-Trompete y Los Leones-Tumba del Indio, todos ellos localizados al sur de la localidad de Sarmiento. La litología identificada corresponde a gabro, monzogabro nefelínico, sienita nefelínica, basalto y basanita, siendo el gabro la variedad predominante. De acuerdo a la forma, el tamaño, los gradientes texturales y la presencia de zeolitas que presentan los cuerpos intrusivos, se considera que éstos se emplazaron en niveles corticales altos (<1 km). La mayoría de las rocas analizadas son básicas con un porcentaje de SiO 2 entre 44 y 48 %, y se caracterizan por el alto contenido en Fe 2 O 3 (10,66-14,67 %), TiO 2 (1,23-3,37 %) y álcalis (3,35-5,91 %). Los diagramas normalizados tienen el diseño típico de basaltos alcalinos de intraplaca, compatibles con una fuente de tipo OIB enriquecida en elementos incompatibles, con residuo granatífero en la fuente y ausencia de contaminación con la placa subducida o cortical. La pendiente pronunciada de la curva normalizada de REE (La/Yb = 10,2-22,4) señala relativamente bajos grados de fusión parcial. A partir del análisis estructural se plantea un ambiente extensional para el emplazamiento de estos cuerpos que es coherente con lo que indican las características geoquímicas.

Inserido atualmente na malha urbana da cidade, o Palácio da Mitra foi uma residência secundária dos arcebispos de Lisboa integrada num eixo setecentista de palácios, casas religiosas e quintas dos arrabaldes, entre a Madre de Deus e o Poço do Bispo.

Vendido, em 1864, ao marquês de Salamanca, o palácio passaria, dez anos depois, para a posse de Horatio Justus Perry encarregado de negócios dos Estados Unidos da América em Madrid, casado com a poetisa espanhola Carolina Coronado e com morada estabelecida em Lisboa.

Foi na fase final da residência da (então viúva) Carolina Coronado que o palácio foi fotografado por José Artur Leitão Bárcia, documentando a última utilização residencial relevante. A partir deste conjunto de imagens, a comunicação incide na conversão do palácio em equipamento cultural municipal, nomeadamente, com a instalação da Biblioteca Municipal do Poço do Bispo, em 1934, e adaptação a Museu da Cidade, inaugurado em 1942.

The alkaline monzo-syenitic porphyries from the Spanish Central System (SCS) show a heterogeneous composition ranging from basic to acid terms which give rise to major and trace element compositional trends in accordance with fractional crystallization of amphibole, plagioclase, biotite, alkaline feldspar, Timagnetite and apatite. The whole-rock geochemistry of the basic porphyries shows clear similarities with respect to the SCS isotopically enriched alkaline lamprophyres, indicating that a genetic link between both groups of dykes might exist. This relationship would probably represent an origin of the monzo-syenitic porphyries after differentiation of parental lamprophyric magmas due to fractional crystallization

Telah dilakukan sintesis senyawa antara 3-(3,4-dimetoksifenil) propanal dalam pembuatan turunan antibiotik C-9154 sebagai upaya perluasan poemanfaatan minyak kayu cengkeh. Eugenol merupakan komponen utama minyak daun cengkeh yang dapat diisolasi menggunakan pelarut natrium hidroksida. Pemanfaatan senyawa ini masih sangat terbatas, sehingga perlu dilakukan upaya pengubahan eugenol menjadi senyawa turunannya yang lebih berdaya guna. Salah satunya, eugenol dapat diubah menjadi senyawa 3-(3,4-dimetoksifenil)-propanal, senyawa tersebut digunakan sebagai bahan untuk mensintesis senyawa turunan antibiotik C-9154. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan bahan dasar metileugenol hasil metilasi eugenol. Reaksi hidroborasi metileugenol menggunakan reagen H3B:dietileter secara in situ dengan mereaksikan NaBH4 dan BF3:dietileterat pada suhu 0 „aC dan kondisi inert yang dibuat dengan mengalirkan gas nitrogen ke dalam sistem. Resumen: La pesquisa llevada a cabo con este artículo se enfoca en analizar los aspectos de la recepción de Isabel Allende y la difusión de sus obras en árabe, que hasta la fecha no han sido tratados en un estudio. Mediante el siguiente análisis se pretende mostrar las reacciones de los receptores árabes de Oriente Medio a través de un corpus limitado a escritores, académicos o literatos con el fin de alcanzar una idea general sobre el impacto que en ellos ha provocado Allende. Este estudio pretende también recopilar los datos de publicación de sus obras que se han traducido a la lengua árabe, los traductores que vierten sus libros a dicho idioma, las editoriales que las publican y la situación de los derechos de propiedad intelectual de los textos traducidos, en general, y las de Allende, en particular. Todos estos puntos tienen el objetivo de reflejar la repercusión literaria de la autora chilena en aquella zona geográfica del mundo árabe.

The study of rocks has become more important, because through the rocks analysis I can be obtained information that can be useful in a lot of fields from mining to construction, passing through many different action fields from materials to processes. In order to analyze the rocks is required a preliminary macroscopic examination of several samples from the field in which one is going to work. The objective of this study is to describe properties such as color, hardness, texture, etc. Then we proceed to do a microscopic analysis, for that we use thin sections that have been prepared in advance from the samples that were used in the initial macroscopic examination, in order to know more properties that can only be seen with a microscope. From this analysis of the optical properties of minerals and mineral associations we can define the type of rock, the formation environments and the behavior of these, among other properties that are outstanding when carrying out a work in a field.

The author draws comparisons between the character of Hayat in the novel and Scheherazade from The Thousand and One Nights, highlighting the use of storytelling as a means of survival and resistance in the face of violence and oppression. Overall, the essay argues that Saturn Ladies revives the legacy of Scheherazade to communicate contemporary events and to keep the country's history alive through storytelling.

RESUMEN Nuestro objetivo aquí es analizar el uso de las interjecciones en el árabe dialectal de Egipto, prestando una especial atención a las de carácter emotivo. Para ello, empezamos por estudiar la naturaleza lingüística de las interjecciones, llegando a la conclusión de que su contenido semántico es de carácter puramente procedimental y su significado exacto depende enormemente del contexto y/o la situación del discurso. Analizando las posibilidades combinatorias de las interjecciones, concluimos que son sintagmas que se muestran reacios a la transposición o a cualquier otro mecanismo de enlace que pueda afectar a su categoría sintáctica de entrada. Nos centramos también en el análisis de los valores semánticos con los que se emplean estos elementos en el dialecto que nos incumbe, detectando la existencia de dos mecanismos básicos de creación de nuevas unidades: la lexicalización de expresiones de contenido originalmente vocativo o de carácter religioso. Tin is one of the many mining products found in the Bangka Belitung Islands region. Geophysical exploration was carried out in the Bukit Sambunggiri area, Merawang District, Bangka Regency using the dipole-dipole configuration polarization to detect polarizationel ectricity on surface of metal material and induction method to identify the distribution of tin deposit mineralization. The parameters is measuring area of 21 Ha with 6 tracks, length A, B, C is 640 meters, D, E, F is 840 meters, spacing between tracks 50 meters, spacing between electrodes 10 meters and equipment used is Multy Channel RS / IP Supersting. Processing measurement data using Res2dinv software to create 2D cross sections and Montaj Oasis for 3D cross sections. The results of resistivity and chargeability data processing of a total of six trajectories have 3 trajectories which have a clear mineralization area, that is, A trajectory is assumed to be at a distance of 250-350 meters and depths from 0-50 meters which are characterized by medium-high chargeability-30) msec and low resistivity (<700) Ohm.m. On track D, it is estimated that there are three parts at a distance of 100-220 meters in depth of 50-50 meters, distance of 335-440 meters in depth of 50-130 meters and distance of 590-680 meters in depth of 50-130 meters. 430 meters at a depth of 0-150 meters. The results of interpretation of track A to track C are suspected to have zones of tin mineralization with secondary deposits and it is known that the mineralized zone is thought to be located below the bog iron zone with secondary tin deposits. This is due to the fact that the bog iron is hard rock like granite which is oxidized, so minerals that have a high level of resistance to weathering such as cassiterite and quartz will be released from the rock body and deposited in the lower layer. While path D to trajectory F is suspected to be the continuation of the zone of tin mineralization with primary deposits. This is presumably because the location of the mineralization area spreads between intrusion of granite rocks which have a high chargeability and resistivity value.

El artículo examina las dos versiones del texto de Ksawery Pruszyński, que este destacado periodista polaco dedicó a la Guerra Civil Española: la edición polaca publicada en 1937 y su traducción al español, aparecida setenta años más tarde, en 2007, realizada por Katarzyna Olszewska Sonnenberg y Sergio Trigán. Al considerar la traducción como un fenómeno de reescritura cultural (Lefevere, 1992), analizaremos cómo ambas versiones del libro generaron acciones creativas. En el primer caso, estas acciones se centraron en una serie de correspondencias históricas, políticas y culturales entre España y Polonia, manifestadas a través de abundantes intertextos. En el segundo caso, se enfocaron en la redacción de paratextos de carácter explicativo-interpretativo. Ambas reescrituras destacan la significativa función mediadora de la actividad traductora, así como sus implicaciones culturales.

Algunos de ellos ya habían sido descritos con anterioridad, P. FRANCO (1980) y el DPTO. DE PETROLOGÍA Y GEOQUÍMICA DE SALAMANCA (1980) los incluye dentro de la Serie «Appinítica», independiente genéticamente de los granitoides inmediatos. Pueden aparecer en el metamorfismo regional de grado medio a alto, pero más frecuentemente lo hacen en contacto o dentro de la «granodiorita tardía» cuyas características se corresponden con el «Jungerer Porphyrischer Granit» de SCHMIDT-THOMÉ (1945) y que se consideran por nosotros de tipo S, así como de la Serie Ilmenítica.

This research deals with one of the contemporary doctrinal perversions that came to the Muslim countries from the west. It is entitled: calling up spirits in the modern spirituality "a critical analytical study". The research aims to unmask the doctrine of modern spirituality in general and the claim of calling up spirits in particular. It deals with the most prominent people affected by this doctrine in the Western and Arab world, and their most important ways and means of spreading it. It confirms the invalidity of the claim of calling up spirits by explaining its corruption in Sharia (Islamic law), reason and experimental science with an explanation of its relationship to hypnosis. The research concludes with a set of results and recommendations, including: The soul is from the world of the unseen, so it cannot be perceived nor communicated with and no one has any authority over it. The modern spirituality is a destructive call based on the claim of communicating with the souls of the dead and it has a close relationship with Freemasonry. That the claim of preparing spirits is contrary to Sharia (Islamic law), reason, science and experience. Among the recommendations: It is the duty of those interested and specialists to warn against all forms of polytheism and modern divination, to clarify them and to explain their insufficiency to the public, and to raise awareness of them due to the severity of their danger to the faith while following up on developments in them. Cultural tourism has become increasingly popular in recent years, providing a valuable source of income for many local communities. Ohafia in Abia State is home to several cultural attractions including the popular War Dance. The potentials of cultural tourism in the area is vast comprising of many different cultural heritage and traditions. This research examined the prospects and challenges of cultural tourism promotion in Ohafia, Abia State, Nigeria. The study is founded on the Cohen, Doxey and Plog’s theories on tourists’ reaction and motivation. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources in bringing out the potentials in the cultural tourism products of Ohafia people that are to be promoted for socio-economic development of the area and the nation. Fundamental strategies in the promotion are cultural tourism product marketing and publicity. The following amongst others are posing threats to effective promotion of cultural tourism in the area; pollution and overcrowding during festivals, poor infrastructure, absence of common recreational facilities, poor access to some cultural heritage sites, unhealthy cultural beliefs and practices as well as insecurity. There is need for community and public partnership in the promotion of the cultural tourism heritage in Ohafia for the development of the area and people. The study will provoke further research.

Los recuerdos del porvenir (1963), de Elena Garro, es una de las novelas más discutidas (y tal vez menos leídas) de la narrativa mexicana moderna. La obra significó el ingreso de la autora al ámbito de la narrativa, ocupando, desde entonces, un lugar central en la literatura mexicana. En este artículo se analizan las estrategias narrativas desplegadas dentro de la novela para describir la manera en que el narrador principal, el pueblo de Ixtepec, es desplazado de manera sigilosa por los habitantes y personajes del texto.

Ḥannā Diyāb, a Maronite from Aleppo who lived from approximately 1687 until after 1764, has gained increased fame in the last decades. It is now known that he was the source for a number of stories of the Arabian Nights published in French (1704-1717) by the orientalist Antoine Galland. These stories, albeit not found in the written Arabic tradition of the Arabian Nights, remain an important oral contribution, as they include some of the best-known stories from the collection, such as Aladdin and the Lamp and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, among others. Kītāb al-Siyāḥah, or The Book of Travels, is another contribution of Ḥannā Diyāb, yet this time written. In this book, he narrates his travels as an assistant to Paul Lucas, the envoy of French king Louis XIV, to collect antiquities from the Ottoman Empire. Ḥanna's travels started in 1707 and included Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and France (where he met Galland), before his return home to Aleppo in June 1710. This account is recorded in Arabic in a single manuscript, which is MS Vatican, BAV, Sbath 254. The book in hand opens up Ḥannā's travel account to a wider Arabic-and English-speaking audience. It comprises an Arabic edition of the text with extensive notes and an introduction by Johannes Stephan, along with a parallel English translation by Elias Muhanna. It comes in two volumes with a foreword by Yasmine Seale and an afterword by Paolo Lemos Horta. The account is divided into chapters, each covering a specific portion of the journey.

Modern Western society currently privileges aspects of light over dark, which is apparent in issues such as light pollution and human's declining relationship with the darkness of night. This article begins the inquiry into possible healing aspects of individual's lived experiences of Natural Darkness (ND) in overnight recollective practices. Recollective practices aim to heal the dualism of the nature/psyche divide through processes that reintegrate the human psyche with the natural world. Semistructured interviews were conducted with eight participants who described their memories with ND during overnight recollective practices. Participants reported that ND contributed to conditions for rest and reprieve, interconnection with something greater, and processing of psychological material. The variety of experiences of ND reveal that this phenomenon cannot be considered essentially good or bad; healthy or unhealthy. For some, ND provided conditions for psychological healing. For others it induced fear; fear that was potentially overwhelming, as well as fear that contributed to interconnection.
