A través de una serie de obras inéditas de José Arpa pertenecientes a la Real  Academia  de  Bellas  Artes  de  Sevilla  profundizamos  en  la  evolución  e intercambios estéticos entre sus años de formación en Sevilla y Roma con respecto a su estancia en Puebla. En esta selección de obras, todas ellas  realizadas  en  México,  podemos  ver  a  un  artista  multidisciplinar,  que conoce a la perfección el gusto y las tendencias más novedosas que importa  a  América  desde  Europa.  No  solo  se  tratan  los  tradicionales  retratos  o  sus  famosas  vistas,  sino  también  facetas  tan  desconocidas  de su producción como proyectos arquitectónicos como el del ábside del Hospital de Beneficencia o trabajos alegóricos en los que se ensalza la figura de Porfirio Díaz.

This comparative study explores the radically divergent aesthetic, psychological, and philosophical dimensions embedded in The Four Trees by Claude Monet (1891) and Cypresses by Vincent van Gogh (1889). Though both works engage with the seemingly neutral motif of trees within a landscape and were painted within a brief temporal proximity, the paper reveals how these canvases are manifestations of entirely distinct worldviews, emotional states, and artistic strategies. Monet's poplars, painted from a floating studio amid rural serenity, embody geometric harmony, chromatic equilibrium, and compositional control — a visual articulation of stability, modernity, and national identity. In contrast, Van Gogh’s cypresses, composed within the confines of an asylum, express a turbulent, metaphysical vision of existence, rendered through convulsive brushwork and symbolic density. Through close formal analysis, contextual inquiry, and interpretive reflection, the paper positions these two works as painterly meditations on light and shadow, vitality and mortality, order and rupture — and ultimately, as revelations of the artist’s living condition. The essay concludes by suggesting how seriality, symbolic intent, and the philosophical tensions between nature, perception, and expression, unite and divide these masterpieces of late 19th-century modernism.

Après presqu’un siècle d’oubli, Le Pont de l’Europe et son pendant Rue de Paris, temps de pluie, que Gustave Caillebotte a présentés au public en 1877, occupent désormais une place privilégiée dans l’œuvre de l’artiste et sont devenus des icônes de la transformation haussmannienne de Paris sous le Second Empire. Leurs dimensions monumentales, les vastes perspectives qui s’ouvrent devant le spectateur, ainsi que le tracé graphique précis des personnages et des éléments urbains leur confèrent une apparence de réalisme quasi photographique qui semble capter des instantanés de scènes de la vie courante. Si l’historiographie récente1 a privilégié une lecture essentiellement descriptive des deux tableaux, paradoxalement ils ne sont pas remarqués par les critiques quand ils réapparaissent lors de l’exposition posthume organisée par les amis du peintre en 1894. Toutefois, un regard plus attentif nous amène à constater que les scènes qui se déroulent en avant-plans présentent un nombre important d’incongruités qui les rendent irréalistes2. Cela nous a incités à examiner les esquisses, les dessins préliminaires et les repentirs de la couche picturale du Pont de l’Europe, avant d’étendre notre regard à Temps de pluie. Notre premier objectif a été d’analyser les perspectives représentées dans ces deux tableaux afin de vérifier si les espaces urbains pouvaient véritablement être considérés comme « réalistes ». Les transformations urbanistiques ayant eu lieu entre-temps compliquent le travail et nous ont obligés à recréer virtuellement le quartier autour de la gare Saint Lazare en trois dimensions, tel qu’il se présentait en 1876 quand Caillebotte a conçu et peint ses deux toiles3. Nous avons notamment utilisé les outils informatiques Autodesk 3ds Max4 qui permettent de reconstruire les projections perspectives en deux dimensions, telles qu’obtenues avec une caméra photographique, et ensuite de les comparer avec celles représentées dans les tableaux. Les perspectives reconstruites à partir des photographies ont toujours pu être référées à un point de vue unique, contrairement à celles du Pont de l’Europe et de Temps de pluie. Aussi plausibles qu’ils paraissent, les deux tableaux s’avèrent être des trompe-l’œil particulièrement réussis plutôt que des vues « réalistes ». Le choix des lieux représentés, les cadrages singuliers et les modifications introduites par l’artiste semblent dictés par une ironie qui reflète le vécu de l’artiste et un caractère qu’il avouait être anticonformiste5. Ce chapitre se limite à présenter les grandes lignes d’un discours implicite et son contenu symbolique, qu’une approche historique permet de préciser. Les visiteurs de l’exposition pourront expérimenter eux-mêmes le décalage entre les artifices perspectifs représentés et les vues réelles du quartier de l’Europe au moyen d’une réalité augmentée sur tablette. D’autres documents illustreront l’évolution des deux projets de toiles au cours de leur exécution, à travers dessins, esquisses préliminaires et repentirs sous-jacents à la couche picturale.

Le Pont de l’Europe et son pendant Jour de Paris, temps de pluie (Art Institute, Chicago) sont amplement célébrés parmi les chefs-d’œuvre de Gustave Caillebotte. Les perspectives saisissantes de ces vastes panoramas urbains ainsi que le réalisme quasi-photographique des personnages et de la ville sont particulièrement appréciés du public. Montrant les abords de la Gare Saint-Lazare et les grands travaux du Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann pendant le second empire, les experts ont aussi interprété ces tableaux à l’aune de l’haussmannisation, et des répercussions sociales et psychologiques de cette révolution urbanistique. Cependant, les scènes en avant-plan n’ont pas toujours été faciles à comprendre.
Des anomalies et détails mystérieux sont particulièrement présents dans le Pont de l'Europe. En suivant les lignes de fuites formées par les éléments métalliques du pont, l’œil est amené vers le visage d’un homme, tourné vers une femme qui semble le regarder, suggérant qu’une conversation est en cours. Toutefois, en observant leur positionnement, on constate que les grandes enjambées de l’homme ont dépassé la femme, qui marche à petits pas, de sorte que le rapport entre les deux personnages est ambigu et paradoxal. En outre, la signification du chien paraissant faire irruption au centre de la composition, dont une patte reste hors-champ, est restée indéchiffrable.
C'est à l'occasion de la grande rétrospective Caillebotte à la Fondation de l’Hermitage en 2005, que j'ai commencé à m'interroger sur ce que Caillebotte a voulu signifier avec cette scène paradoxale. En examinant le tableau, j'ai été surpris de constater que la trajectoire du chien l’amène directement entre les jambes du personnage féminin, ce qui pourrait indiquer un intérêt intime de l’artiste pour son modèle. S’agissant d’un pressentiment et non d’un fait objectif, il s’agissait de vérifier cette hypothèse et de comprendre si la trajectoire du chien a varié dans les différentes phases de réalisation du tableau. Comme les images produites avec les rayons X ou en réflectographie infrarouge permettent de déceler des repentirs cachés sous les couches de peinture superficielles, le tableau a été soumis à ces examens et j'ai donc pu satisfaire ce qui n’était qu’une simple curiosité de chercheur en neurosciences, et non d’historien de l’art. Initialement entreprises avec un instrument commercial, l’analyse par réflectographie multispectrale a été ensuite poursuivie avec un instrument de recherche, plus performant, et une équipe de chercheurs spécialisés dans différentes disciplines a été créée. L’objectif de toutes ces recherches était de définir les décisions et les intentions de Caillebotte lorsqu’il entreprit ce projet, dont la complexité reste insoupçonnée si on ne considère que le tableau fini.

No acervo do Museu Histórico Abílio Barreto (MHAB), encontramos três obras de Emilio Rouède: duas paisagens e uma representação de uma Igreja. Nada parece incomum nas obras, nem pela técnica e muito menos pelas dimensões. A assinatura do artista parece não atrair maiores interesses, razões talvez da ausência de destaque oferecido pelo museu tanto pelas obras como ao artista. Por qual razão essas obras pertencem à coleção do MHAB? Teria sido uma doação de um artista sem maiores significados? As informações sobre Rouède eram incompletas e dispersas, o que nos levou a acompanhar jornais brasileiros que circularam a partir de 1890, data em que o artista se transfere para o Rio de Janeiro, passando a ser reconhecido em diversas atividades. Seus dados biográficos já seriam dignos de interesse, mas surpreende que o artista ainda tenha produzido nas obras consideradas “sem interesse” um dos poucos registros pictóricos que sobreviveram do antigo Curral Del Rey, antes de ser destruído para ocupar a nova capital de Minas Gerais. No presente artigo, resgatamos a trajetória do pintor desde sua chegada ao Brasil, passando pelo Rio de Janeiro, Ouro Preto, até a elaboração de suas obras que se encontram no MHAB. O caminho percorrido visa lançar um olhar sobre essas obras e busca recuperar parte do contexto de sua produção.

In the collection of the Museu Histórico Abílio Barreto (MHAB), we find three works by Emilio Rouède: two landscapes and a representation of a Church. Nothing seems unusual in the works, neither because of the te-chnique nor because of the dimensions. The artist’s signature does not seem to  attract  greater  interest,  perhaps  reasons  for  the  lack  of  prominence  offe-red by the museum both for the works and for the artist. Why do these works belong to the MHAB collection? Would it have been a donation from an artist with  no  greater  meanings?  Information  about  Rouède  was  incomplete  and  scattered,  which  led  us  to  follow  Brazilian  newspapers  that  circulated  from  1890 onwards, the date on which the artist moved to Rio de Janeiro, starting to be recognized in various activities. His biographical data would already be worthy of interest, but it is surprising that the artist still produced in works considered “of no interest” one of the few pictorial records that survived from the  old  Curral  Del  Rey,  before  it  was  destroyed  to  occupy  the  new  capital  of  Minas  Gerais.  In  this  article,  we  rescue  the  painter’s  trajectory  since  his  ar-rival in Brazil, passing through Rio de Janeiro, Ouro Preto, until the elaboration of his works that are in the MHAB. The path taken aims to look at these works and seeks to recover part of the context of their production.

Em 1888, o crítico de Arte carioca Luiz Gonzaga Duque Estrada (1863-1911) publicou seu livro de estreia, A Arte Brasileira, em que buscava compreender aspectos da pintura e da escultura no país, desde os tempos coloniais. Objeto de estudo e comentário ao longo de décadas, A Arte Brasileira ainda suscita muitas questões para o atual debate historiográfico sobre artistas, obras, temas e técnicas, notadamente nos temas relativos às Artes do Segundo Império. Neste texto, a intenção é buscar elementos para a compreensão da formação deste livro fundamental, a partir do exame de algumas das primeiras participações de Gonzaga Duque na imprensa do Rio de Janeiro, que se dão a partir de 1883, quando o jovem crítico funda, junto com Olímpio de Niemeyer (1859-1931), o jornal Guanabara. No Guanabara, Gonzaga Duque comenta exposições, efemérides e talvez neste processo estejam as bases para o pensamento que moldará A Arte Brasileira.

In  1888,  the  Brazilian  art  critic  Luiz  Gonzaga  Duque  Estrada  (1863-1911) published his debut book, A Arte Brasileira, in which he sought to understand  aspects  of  painting  and  sculpture  in  the  country,  since  colonial  times. Object of study and comment for decades, A Arte Brasileira still raises many  questions  for  the  current  historiographical  debate  on  artists,  works, and techniques, notably in themes related to the Arts of the Brazilian Second Empire. In this text, the intention is to seek elements for understanding the formation of this fundamental book, from the examination of some of the first participations of Gonzaga Duque in the Rio de Janeiro press, which take place from 1883, when the young critic founded, together with Olímpio de Niemeyer (1859-1931), the Guanabara newspaper. In Guanabara, Gonzaga Duque comments on exhibitions, ephemeris and perhaps in this process lie the bases for the thought that will shape A Arte Brasileira.

In line with the widespread, almost common-sense conviction of the relevance of the dream theme, the original idea of this essay was to explain Kaija Saariaho's (* October 14, 1952, † June 2, 2023) style in relation to "European dream cultures" and to place it in a Finnish context. 1 While doubts about the relative importance of dreams for Saariaho (as inspiration, structural model, or aesthetic framework) are legitimate, new perspectives open up on the function of dreams in Finnish and other Northern European traditions, including mythology and literature. As a theme, the dream is as prevalent in the popular reception of Saariaho's work as sound and gender, but all of these three themes need to be challenged as heuristic and analytical guidelines. What follows lays the groundwork for a detailed analysis of the possibility of a Finnish dimension to Saariaho's approach to dreams. This paper asks what it means in Finnish discourse when dreams are mentioned as a metaphor for Saariaho's style. A similar study in another regional setting would facilitate a more global understanding of the associations generated by this category. Brief interviews were conducted with the Finnish composers Harri Vuori (*1957) and Tapio Tuomela (*1958). The result was varied. In short, there has not been a general enthusiasm for dreams in Finland, but rather a critical trend, even though a number of composers such as Saariaho, Tuomela, Vuori and many others have produced fascinating dream-related pieces, large and small.

The paper deals with a trio of portraits from the collections of the SNM-Červený Kameň Museum. Depicted in the portraits are prominent noblemen, contemporaries, active in the first half of the18th century: a provincial judge and field marshal (later on, Palatine) John Bernard Pálffy (1663 — 1751); one of the most significant bishops of Nitra, László Adam Erdődy (1677 — 1736); and the main court master, vice-regent adviser and
Dalmatian, Croatian and Slavonian ban (later on, a provincial judge) Joseph Imrich Esterházy (1682 — 1748). Originally, these three portraits did not belong to each other but were connected into one series by a few poor quality secondary adjustments later on. They are presented on an example of the portrait of John Pálffy restored some time ago. A thorough knowledge of its technical substance led to the identification of further two paintings from the series. At the same time it was possible to determine their original location in the Hlohovec Castle. Apart from looking for connections among these three personalities, the text points to the importance of knowing the technical substance of paintings as an essential element of the historical context and it also clarifies the problematic moments in their restoration methodics.

Cieľom príspevku bol pokus o identifikáciu obrazov v zbierke SNM-Múzea Červený Kameň, ktoré v minulosti tvorili interiérové vybavenie pálffyovského kaštieľa v Smoleniciach. Napriek chýbajúcim dobovým opisom, inventárom či vyobrazeniam interiérov bola táto identifikácia čiastočne možná na základe identifikácie znakov predmúzejnej dokumentácie na rubovej strane obrazov. Príspevok približuje vzhľad, situovanie a chronológiu týchto znakov a interpretuje ich význam. Súčasťou príspevku sú aj zoznamy zbierkových predmetov, ktoré sa podarilo s istotou identifikovať ako pôvodné zariadenie smolenického kaštieľa.

The article summarises the hitherto known historical depictions of the Červený Kameň castle and its direct surroundings in paintings, drawings and graphics. Briefly, it deals with the circumstances of their creation, acquisitions into the collections, the nature of processing and the instructive value they have in terms of knowledge of the construction development of the castle and its forecourts, as well as the transformations of the surrounding landscape.

a contemporary reflection on Hegel's famous quote "the real is the rational and the rational is the real" that tradition has often misinterpreted. Inspired by a new reading by Jean-François Kervégan (which translates the sentence "the rational will become effective/real and the real/effective will become rational"), the article focuses on one of the possible illustrations of this Hegelian thesis. Émile Zola's novel The Work consists of a very interesting analysis of the notions of reality, effectiveness and rationality that the author applies to both literature and visual arts. Behind the controversies of Pierre Sandoz and Claude Lantier, it is possible to discern all the debates that opposed Émile Zola to his friend Paul Cézanne.

A comparação entre as aquarelas feitas por Jean-Baptiste Debret no Rio de Janeiro entre 1816 e 1831 e as fotografias nas quais Augusto Malta mostrou a capital após as reformas urbanas do início do século XX permite-nos refletir sobre o fenômeno artístico em sua complexidade. Em ambos os casos, as imagens foram reproduzidas e difundidas para um grande público por iniciativa de seus autores. O que os motivou e quais foram as reações do público? Comparando essas reações, podemos identificar mudanças importantes entre esses dois momentos? Essas questões guiam nossas reflexões sobre a produção e a recepção das imagens da cidade do Rio de Janeiro.

Η εργασία επικεντρώνεται στη ζωή και το έργο του Gustave Doré, ενός από τους σημαντικότερους εικονογράφους και καλλιτέχνες του 19ου αιώνα. Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνεται στην έκθεση "Master of Imagination", η οποία φιλοξενήθηκε στην Πινακοθήκη του Καναδά από τις 12 Ιουνίου έως τις 14 Σεπτεμβρίου 2014. Στόχος της εργασίας είναι να αναδείξει τη διαχρονικότητα του οράματος του Doré καθώς και την επίδρασή του στη σύγχρονη αντίληψη της καλλιτεχνικής φαντασίας. Η εργασία αυτή εκπονήθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια του μαθήματος Μουσείο, Εκθέσεις και Ερμηνεία(Mus 504),του Τμήματος Μουσειολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών από τη Μουσειολόγο Καραγιάννη Χαρά.

En raison de la prolifération de romans contemporains portant sur la peinture et/ou ayant un peintre comme personnage principal, on recherche dans cette étude les origines modernes de ce phénomène. L'intérêt est centré sur trois textes narratifs français du 19 e siècle: Le Chef-d'oeuvre inconnu de Balzac, Manette Salomon des frères Goncourt et L'OEuvre de Zola. Au terme de nos observations textuelles, on découvrira qu'en définitive, les peintres qui en sont les protagonistes, Frenhofer, Coriolis et Claude Lantier, ne se ressemblent que par leur métier, chacun proposant une notion différente de l'artiste: titan chez Balzac; dandy chez les Goncourt et esclave de sa passion chez Zola. En tous cas, ces peintres sont tous voués à l'échec, tous exprimant l'idée artistiquement littéraire de leurs auteurs, qui étaient à la fois écrivains et critiques. Ce qui ferait l'occasion pour une ultérieure recherche sur ce qu'est que la présence de la peinture dans la littérature, sur ses enjeux , ses conséquences.

Аннотация. Статья представляет результаты исследования деятельности женщин-фотографов в истории советской фотожурналистики в годы Великой Отечественной войны. В историю фотографии вводится комплекс из семи известных на 2020 г. имен советских женщин-фотографов, снимавших театр боевых действий в 1941-1945 гг. Впервые публикуются материалы, дающие представление о характере работы женщин -военных фотожурналистов, приводятся сравнительные материалы, отражающие отношение современников к деятельности женщин-и мужчин-фотокорреспондентов. Исследование наследия неординарных и сложных личностей семи женщин -военных фотокорреспондентов затруднено тем, что круг сохранившихся документов крайне скуден, архивы сохранены не у всех рассматриваемых авторов, никто из них не оставил воспоминаний. То обстоятельство, что много лет никто не занимался историей их творчества, привело к тому, что еще предстоит исследование, атрибуция и пере-атрибуция сохранившихся фотографий и документов. В тексте статьи каждая из семи фотографов запечатлена в коротком биографическом очерке, в котором акцентированы особенности довоенной биографии, приводятся уточненные современные датировки жизни и участия в военных действиях. Анализируются социальные, политические и биографические предпосылки сложения стилистических форм в творчестве данных авторов. Выдвигается гипотеза влияния посттравматического синдрома на послевоенное творчество женщин-фотографов. Данная работа является лишь первым подходом к заявленной теме. Важность исследования заключается в расширении тематического пространства истории отечественной фотографии и введении в нее ранее не публиковавшихся материалов.

Estudiem i atribuïm tres obres devocionals del pintor ceràmic Valentí Garcés conservades a Atzeneta del Maestrat: un parell de plafons (Sant Pasqual de 1830 i Sant Miquel) i una socolada amb escenes de la Passió que decora la capella de la comunió en l’església de Sant Bartomeu. Finalment afegim un plafó dedicat a Sant Cristòfol que atribuïm al seu fill: Manuel Garcés.

We study and attribute three devotional works by the ceramic painter Valentí Garcés preserved in Atzeneta del Maestrat: a pair of panels (San Pascual from 1830 and San Miguel) and a wainscoting with scenes from the Passion that decorates the communion chapel in the church of Sant Bartomeu. Finally, we include a panel dedicated to Saint Christopher that we attribute to his son: Manuel Garcés.

Drawing-like prints with soft-ground etching strictly depend on using paper to decal on top of a special tacky ground. In the traditional manner, the resulting sheet will host both a drawing and a transfer on opposite sides of the paper, recto and verso, respectively. Considering that prints with the technique date back as early as the 17th century, papers with soft-ground transfers must have been produced throughout many generations of printmakers. However, catalogued examples are scarce and difficult to track among print collections. Used as intermediate surfaces, printmaking literature often regard these as collateral waste to the process. This apparent lack of relevance seems to be due to their processual role in etching-making. Preserved soft-ground transfers can be identified from the late 19th century onwards, showing that artists have not always perceived them as disposable. The soft-ground transfers can be a key component to learning more about the creative processes of relevant printmakers, as well as of their workshop materials, such as papers, drawings instruments and etching grounds recipes. We propose a revised new study on soft-ground transfers to increase recognition of processual objects and their role in today's practice of printmaking. NOTE TO THE READER: The technical descriptions found in the figure legends are not coherent throughout the text. As the reader will have a chance to understand, there's no consensus regarding the terminology for the procedure in question. For that reason, we decided to keep the original expressions, descriptions and terms, as found in art institutions or museums, and as provided by the artists.

This book examines the visual beauty and symbolism of stained-glass
windows in Europe and American cultures during the late nineteenth and
early twentieth centuries—the modern era. Discussions center on how
stained glass became an art form during this time and how the narrative for
the figurative design drew from the Bible, mythology, history, literature,
and the symbolism of the time, including themes on popular culture.
This book focuses on three main themes: 1) aesthetic, symbolic, and
cultural concepts of radiance and beauty in stained glass in modern art; 2)
interrelations of visual representations of stained glass from Europe
(England, France, and Italy) to America (USA and Mexico); and 3)
innovations and transformations of stained glass from religious
decorations to secular material culture.

Крајем септембра 1909. године Велики Бечкерек (данашњи Зрењанин) је био домаћин годишње путујуће скупштине Мађарског географског друштва (мађ. Magyar földrajzi társaság), која се сваке године одржавала у другом граду. У питању је био догађај који је омогућило и организовало Торонталско мађарско културно удружење, уз подршку градских и власти Торонталске жупаније. Тако су се на једном месту окупила најеминентнија имена мађарске географске науке, као што су Јене Чолноки, Реже Хаваш, Пал Телеки, Ерне Машањ, Антал Ретли и др. Премда је несумњиво обележио 1909. годину у Великом Бечкереку, у локалној историографији је овај скуп остао прилично незапажен и необрађен. Уз летимичан осврт на биографије његових запаженијих учесника и организатора, рад настоји да, на основу опширних и детаљних извештаја оновремене штампе и оскудно сачуване архивске грађе, детаљно реконструише припреме које су претходиле овом догађају, његов ток и последице.

Δέχθηκα με μεγάλη χαρά να πάρω μέρος στην αποψινή παρουσίαση του βιβλίου του καλού φίλου Λουκά Δ. Παπαδάκη «Ο Δέκατος Τρίτος Απόστολος. Πράξεις Μελετίου Μεταξάκη». Πριν σας μιλήσω για το βιβλίο, θεωρώ σωστό να σας πω λίγα λόγια για τον συγγραφέα του, τον οποίο γνώρισα πριν από δέκα περίπου χρόνια και έκτοτε μας συνδέει μια καλή φιλία και ένας στενός πνευματικός δεσμός, που προκύπτει από την κοινή αγάπη σε πολλά, άυλα βεβαίως, πράγματα και αξίες. Ο Λουκάς Παπαδάκης είναι νησιώτης όπως εμείς. Γεννήθηκε στην Κρήτη, όμως ζει και εργάζεται μακριά από τα γενέτειρά του, καθώς είναι οδοντίατρος στην Αλίαρτο της Βοιωτίας. Συνεχίζει τη λαμπρά παράδοση των νεοελλήνων γιατρών, που ασχολήθηκαν με τη φιλολογία, τη λογοτεχνία, την ιστορία και τα γράμματα, μια σχολή που λάμπρυνε, αφού βρισκόμαστε σε εκκλησιαστικό περιβάλλον, και εγκαινίασε ο Ευαγγελιστής Λουκάς, του οποίου το όνομα φέρει ο κύριος Παπαδάκης, ο οποίος σύμφωνα με την Εκκλησιαστική παράδοση έζησε για πολλά χρόνια στη Θήβα, πολύ κοντά στην Αλίαρτο, όπου ζει ο συγγραφέας. Ο Λουκάς Παπαδάκης, κληρονόμησε από τους γονείς του, λαμπρούς εκπαιδευτικούς, την αγάπη για τα ελληνικά γράμματα και ειδικά από τον πατέρα του, Δημήτρη Παπαδάκη, την έφεση στην έρευνα και τη συγγραφή. Είναι δόκιμος και πολύ καλός ποιητής και δεκάδες ποιήματα ή άρθρα του έχουν δημοσιευθεί σε πολλά ελλαδικά περιοδικά. Το βιβλίο του, που παρουσιάζουμε απόψε, ένας ογκώδης τόμος που πλησιάζει τις 850 πυκνογραμμένες σελίδες, είναι αυτό που λέμε έργο ζωής. Είναι αποτέλεσμα μιας συστηματικής μελέτης, που κράτησε σχεδόν δέκα χρόνια, ενός ανθρώπου που αφοσιώθηκε ολόψυχα στο αντικείμενό του. Και τούτο, σκεφτείτε, έχοντας παράλληλα τις βιοτικές, επαγγελματικές, οικογενειακές έγνοιες και μέριμνες, και ζώντας μακριά από τις μεγάλες βιβλιοθήκες και τα αρχεία που βρίσκονται στις μεγαλουπόλεις. Πρόκειται για ένα μικρό άθλο που τιμά ιδιαιτέρως τον συγγραφέα, καθώς κατάφερε να επικοινωνήσει με δεκάδες ανθρώπους και ερευνητές σε πολλούς τόπους, ακολουθώντας τον Μελέτιο Μεταξάκη στην εκπληκτική εκκλησιαστική του σταδιοδρομία. Σε αυτό το νοερό ταξίδι αναζήτησης συνάντησε και αρκετούς Κυπρίους και κάπως έτσι ανταμώσαμε και εμείς. Χαίρομαι που γνώρισε και νεότερους Κύπριους και Κύπριες ιστορικούς, που ασχολούνται στην έρευνα και στις διατριβές τους με το έργο του Μελετίου. Η Μήνα Κουμανταρή είναι μια από αυτές.

O objeto da tese materializa-se na condição artística do feminino e suas possíveis intercorrências ideológicas, sociais e políticas em Portugal, entre finais do século XIX e início do século XX. Dois propósitos são enunciados: o primeiro visa a compreensão da entrada das alunas mulheres no seio das academias de belas-artes no país; e o segundo, o estudo e levantamento das artistas que trilharam caminho no campo da representação escultórica. Delineamos esse estudo através de uma análise pormenorizada nos meandros das academias portuguesas com a identificação de alunas e futuras artistas mulheres e seus trabalhos. Propormos indagações em dois eixos temáticos gerais, o primeiro em História das Mulheres e o segundo em História da Arte. Tencionamos demonstrar se existiu uma transformação nas formas que regiam o comportamento e a participação feminina, seja em moldes sociais, políticos ou, sobretudo, culturais.

The book dedicated to the painted representations to St. Clement of Ohrid in the medieval, Byzantine, post-Byzantine and the art of time of the Macedonian Renaissance represent a unique attempt to collect chronologically and  scientifically to treat a present approximately 200 portraits of St. Clement from the XI to the beginning of the XX century.

El Prof. Dr. J.A. Herrera va respondre, adreçant-se a tots els assistents i a la taula de ponents: "El paisatge no només identifica al Penedès sinó que també ens integra. Els humans no incorporem el paisatge, sinó què és el paisatge qui ens incorpora com a un més dels éssers vius del planeta, siguin plantes, animals, microbis, en fi, la totalitat del bioma del planeta Terra. L'excepcionalitat de la nostra incorporació però, esdevé massa traumàtica pel paisatge, donat que som l'única espècie que capitalitzem i multipliquem per potències de 10 (10 elevat a 1, 10 elevat a 2, 10 elevat a 3,....) la quantitat d'energia que en fem servir. Energia que una vegada convenientment multiplicada per nosaltres a nivells inversemblants tenim immediata necessitat de transportar entre nuclis de població. El Penedès se situa a Catalunya dins d'un corredor estratègic de comunicacions, infraestructures, línies i canalitzacions de transport d'energies, transport ferroviari i d'alta velocitat, viari i d'alta capacitat, portuari i aeroportuari en un hub de primer ordre. Corredor equidistant i enmig de les més grans corones metropolitanes (Barcelona - Tarragona), i també entre la Catalunya interior i la Catalunya marítima i la Catalunya aèria (els tres aeroports més importants flanquegen triangularment el Penedès). Ja a les intenses jornades de treball d'experts i els fòrums posteriors de la revisió del Pla Territorial Parcial del Penedès (PTPP), l'IEP va advertir que la incorporació i instal·lació de tota mena d'energies renovables a Catalunya i/o provinents de fora d'ella, acabarien passant també pel corredor del Penedès, agreujant encara més la situació. És una aspecte que cal preveure i treballar molt intensament per evitar que el paisatge en surti danyat. De fet, durant els diversos mesos de treball d'experts en les jornades de l'Observatori del Paisatge de Catalunya a les quatre comarques (tres castells de Marca del Penedès i el claustre conventual de Sta. Oliva) l'IEP ja va exposar aquest risc, que va ser immediatament consensuat per la resta d'experts, i inclús va donar nom a una nova categoria extraoficial de paisatge: "els paisatges trinxats".
En la experiència de molts anys treballant amb tot tipus de nivells d'administracions públiques, i en són ja 45 anys d'IEP al Penedès i també a la resta de Catalunya, quan una alcaldessa/alcalde ens demana sobre la Carta del Paisatge del seu municipi sempre li interpelem amb una senzilla pregunta: "Quan el nouvingut arriba al vostre municipi i baixa del tren, de l'autobús, de la bici, del cotxe o ve caminat, quin és el primer paisatge que n'observa tot just en fer peus a terra?" Allò és just la vostra autèntica carta de presentació del paisatge del vostre municipi. I si aquesta primera impressió no és bona, molt possiblement la resta que n'observarà serà certament decebedora o molt pitjor encara"
Quan el viatger de fora arriba al Penedès per primera vegada, sigui per a on sigui que accedeixi (nord, sud, est o oest) què és el primer que percep del paisatge penedesenc?
Resulta que al Penedès tenim una col·lecció i diversitat de paisatges única a Catalunya. Ho acaba de mostrar i de resumir magistralment en Pere Sala, director de l'Observatori del Paisatge de Catalunya, en una presentació d'enorme qualitat que ens acaba de mostrar en pantalla. Estigueu atents a l'aprovació i a la publicació oficial del nou Catàleg del Paisatge del Penedès, la de major qualitat i excel·lència dels catàlegs del paisatge de Catalunya fins al moment publicats.
Us posaré uns exemples molt bàsics. El Penedès conté una proporció d'espais oberts agroforestals única a Catalunya. Quan a la resta de Catalunya el bosc ho envaeix quasi tot en els darrers 100 anys (quasi el 70% de la superfície de Catalunya és forestal) aquí en canvi el paisatges agrícoles oberts són dominants i d'una qualitat extraordinària. No són únicament les vinyes dominants, sinó també els conreus extensius de secà (cereals, sobretot a la part de l'Anoia), però també els dels arbres fruiters de secà, ametllers, oliveres, garroferars, .... I la pregunta esdevé clau: els tenim protegits?. Doncs tenim un exemple proper a on emmirallar-nos i prendre bona nota. Al delta del Llobregat, en els darrers 50 anys, tots els municipis que disposen de sòls d'extraordinària qualitat de conreus d'horta els han anat substituint per grans polígons industrials a banda i banda de les grans vies de comunicació (autopistes, ferrocarrils,..) fins fer perillar la totalitat d'aquest paisatge agrícola d'horta deltaica. De totes les administracions, només una d'elles va fer-se ressò del clam de la pagesia local, la Diputació de Barcelona. No es tractava doncs només de protegir la denominació d'origen protegida del la carxofa del Prat o de l'espàrrec de Gavà o d'altres valors hortícoles singulars, sinó de protegir la totalitat d'aquest paisatge agrícola d'horta. I així és com es va protegir, amb la declaració d'un Parc Agrícola del Baix Llobregat.
Què esperem al Penedès? A tenir-ho tot dins d'aquella categoria oficiosa de "paisatge trinxat"? Us proposem, i m'adreço especialment al secretari representant de la conselleria d'Agricultura present, d'estudiar seriosament la catalogació de protecció dels conjunts d'espais agroforestals oberts del Penedès (no només la vinya) com a nou Parc Agrícola del Penedès, i també la de tres espais naturals ja protegits al Penedès, aquesta vegada paisatges forestals de muntanya baixa mediterrània, però que ho són precàriament sota la normativa urbanística (protecció reversible en quant pugui canviar la Llei del sòl a nivell UE, estatal, Generalitat, altres) d'un Pla Especial (Pla Especial de Protecció del Medi Físic) i que fa referència al tres parcs Penedesencs actuals: el Parc del Garraf, el Parc del Foix i el Parc d'Olèrdola, administrats i gestionats per la Diputació de Barcelona. A què esperem per tal esdevinguin aquests,  nous Parcs Naturals de Catalunya sota la normativa, aquesta ja irreversible, de la Llei d'espais naturals de Catalunya?”

The Zāyandeh Rūd River played an important role in shaping the society of ancient Isfahan, although the river basin had not been well investigated archaeologically. In 2021 an archaeological survey was conducted by the Isfahan Hydraulic Heritage Project along the Zāyandeh Rūd River. Roughly thirty kilometers southeast of the city of Isfahan, prehistoric pottery sherds attributed to the Bakun period came to light on the surface of a tell-site called Tappeh Ziar. The analysis and comparison of the sherds show some interactions with the Fars prehistoric cultures, especially the Kur River Basin during the fifth millennium BCE.

Апстракт: Црквата „Св. Димитриј“ во село Броштица во Цен
тарот Жупа, според документацијата во НУ НКЦ – Скопје, поседу
вала 14 икони, изработени од различни автори во еден поширок вре
менски дијапазон (XVII−XIX век) на кои во поново време им се губи
трагата. Нашиот интерес за овие икони првенствено се води од
желбата тие да не бидат заборавени во времето, а поради својата
историско-уметничка вредност сепак, макар и само според располо
живата документација, да влезат во кругот на интересот на струч
но-научните кругови пред сè за разбирањето на зографските текови
во Дебарско-реканскиот регион. И секако, што не е помалку важно,
да се потсети за горката реалност во однос на состојбата со кул
турното наследство, кое секојдневно неповратно го губиме поради
сеопшта негрижа или кражби. На овој начин тежнееме уште еднаш
да се потсети, дека за овие икони треба да се одржи интересот и да
се вложи напор истите да бидат пронајдени и вратени во матична
та црква каде што припаѓаат.

Στη μελέτη αυτή θα αναφερθούμε στο έργο του σχετικά άγνωστου αγιογράφου του 18ου αι. Θεοφάνους εκ Καισαρείας. Πολύ λίγοι έχουν ασχοληθεί
με το αγιογραφικό έργο του, το οποίο είναι πλούσιο και αξιόλογο, και οι
οποιεσδήποτε αναφορές είναι διάσπαρτες σε διάφορα βιβλία1
και αποκομμένες από μια συνολική θεώρηση και καταγραφή του. Η έρευνα δεν έφτασε
ακόμη έως τούτη την αγιογραφική πνοή, που φύσηξε από την ανατολή στον
τόπο μας. Επίσης, μας δίνεται η αφορμή να υπογραμμίσουμε τον αδιάσπαστο και συνεχή σύνδεσμο της Κύπρου με την Ανατολή, τη Μικρά Ασία,
και στον τομέα της αγιογραφικής τέχνης

This article brings together four episodes of French 19th century museal
history through which to explore the tensions inherent to incorporating
the (material) culture of others – in this case Pre-Columbian America
– into national collections, and the process through which they become
part of a national patrimoine. As a guiding thread, we use not a particular
collection but the idea of “American French collections” and their association to a specific type of national institution that used them abundantly in its historical genealogy: the idea of a “French national museum of ethnography.”
We offer a historical panorama where Amerindian and Pre-Columbian
French collections found themselves at the heart of several debates
regarding the definition and function of the museum and during which the
need to “repair” – either an object, a national institution or a concept – was invoked.

тставата на Страшниот суд од црквата „Успение на Пресвета Богородица“ во Гари, чиешто сликарство настанало во 1866 година како дело на работилницата на Дичо Зограф, а врз него била направена преслика кон крајот на XIX век од страна на рабо тилницата на браќата Андонови од Гари. Покрај традиционалните елементи, кои се задолжителен елемент на византиската и постви зантиската иконографија на Страшниот суд, во претставата од Гари среќаваме низа решенија кои говорат за новиот третман на темата, карактеристичен за периодот на XIX век. Компаративните анализи укажуваат дека како прототип за ликовното вообличување на оваа композиција послужиле хартиените икони со претставата на Страшниот суд кои биле создавани во светогорските манастири во периодот од 1820 до 1860 година.

Puebla fue la capital cultural de la Nueva España, teniendo cinco colegios jesuitas, dominico, franciscano y el seminario palafoxiano.  Se amalgamaron personajes de un nivel cultural alto que se mantenían al tanto de los avances del mundo.  Así entró con vigor el pensamiento llamado ilustrado, desarrollándose en las academias llamadas de los curiosos como actividad extra-escolar, pero que marcaron la idea del mundo novohispano y luego del Mexicano.  Aqui presentamos una síntesis

Dissertando intorno al mondo della matita, non può che venire in mente Paulo Coelho con la sua ‘Storia della matita’1 dal libro Sono come il fiume che scorre, dove lo scrittore, narrando del dialogo fra nonna e nipote, coglie l’occasione di ragionare intorno alle cinque qualità della matita trasponendo in lei profondi significati. ... Ecco la quinta qualità della matita: essa lascia sempre un segno. Allo stesso modo, tutto ciò che farai nella vita lascerà una traccia: di conseguenza impegnati per avere piena coscienza di ogni tua azione ..., (ndr, aggiungiamo), e non sempre questa si cancella.

Disiplinler arası bir bilim dalı olan sanat psikolojisi, 19. yüzyıl sonlarında
sanatçıyı ve sanat eserini açıklama amacıyla ortaya çıkmıştır. Esere
ve sanatçıya objektif bir şekilde yaklaşan sanat psikolojisinde, psikoloji
biliminden yararlanılarak yorumlarda bulunulmaktadır. Bu yorumlarda,
çalışma üzerindeki sembollerden sanatçı hakkında ya da sanatçının geçmişinden/
hayatından yola çıkılarak eserler açıklanmaktadır. Yapılan yorumlar
eserin ve sanatçının değerine etki etmemekte sadece bilimsel perspektif
bağlamında bir bakış açısı sunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, sanat psikolojisinin
ne olduğuna, nasıl işlediğine değinilmiş, eserlerinde psikolojik yansımalarını
gördüğümüz sanatçıların okumaları yapılmıştır. Bu sanatçılardan
Francisco Goya’nın gelenekleri bozan gerçekçi ve eleştirel üretimlerinin
yanı sıra Vincent Van Gogh’un psikolojik rahatsızlıklarının eserleri üzerindeki
etkisi üzerinden Yayoi Kusama’nın puantiye hakkındaki obsesifliğinin
çalışmalarının temelini oluşturması odağında değerlendirmelerde
bulunulmuştur.

This study examines five 19 th-century icons portraying St. Naum of Ohrid, originating from the Prilep`s churches of the Annunciation, the Transfiguration, and that of Sts. Cyril and Methodius. Through iconographic analysis, the research seeks to elucidate the artistic conventions underlying the depiction of St. Naum within the 19 th-century Orthodox iconographic traditions. Meanwhile, the stylistic analysis aims to identify the artistic circles and influences within which these works were created and circulated. The icons preserved in the Prilep`s churches constitute a vital source for exploring the visual representation of the saint during this period and for tracing the spread and entrenchment of his cult throughout Macedonia. By integrating iconographic and stylistic approaches, this paper offers a nuanced understanding of the interplay between the artistic practices and the religious dynamics in the region, shedding light on the synthesis between the tradition and the localized artistic expression.

Ο Μυστράς αποτελεί από το 1989 μνημείο της Παγκόσμιας Πολιτισμικής Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO λόγω της αρχαιολογικής, ιστορικής και θρησκευτικής του σημασίας. Ο τοιχογραφικός διάκοσμος των εκκλησιών του Μυστρά σχεδόν στο σύνολό τους ανάγονται στον κύκλο των τοιχογραφιών της Παλαιολόγειας ή Υστεροβυζαντινής περιόδου (1204-1453) που χαρακτηρίστηκε ως «Παλαιολόγειος Αναγέννηση» με κύρια χαρακτηριστικά τον ρεαλισμό, την ελευθερία στην κίνηση και τα πλούσια χρώματα στα πρόσωπα και στα ενδύματα των μορφών.
Το εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα με τίτλο: «Γνωρίζω τις Βυζαντινές Τοιχογραφίες του Μυστρά» δημιουργήθηκε και σχεδιάστηκε το 2019-2020 αρχικά από τη Σχολή Βυζαντινής Αγιογραφίας «Φώτης Κόντογλου» λόγω του γνωστικού της αντικειμένου, σε συνεργασία με το Γραφείο Νεότητος υπό την σκέπη της Ι.Μ. Μονεμβασίας και Σπάρτης και την άδεια της Εφορείας Αρχαιοτήτων Λακωνίας. Το πρόγραμμα απευθύνεται σε μαθητές και μαθήτριες Νηπιαγωγείου, Π/θμιας (όλων των τάξεων του Δημοτικού) και Δ/θμιας εκπαίδευσης (όλων των τάξεων του Γυμνασίου). Προβλεπόταν να εφαρμοστεί στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο του Μυστρά, με την παρουσία των εκπαιδευτικών του σχολείου, των κατηχητών και των συνοδών των μαθητών/τριών.
Ο κύριος σκοπός του εν λόγω εκπαιδευτικού προγράμματος ήταν να γνωρίσουν οι μαθητές/τριες μέσω της δια ζώσης βιωματικής, τις τοιχογραφίες των βυζαντινών εκκλησιών του Μυστρά και ειδικότερα των Ναών του Αγ. Δημητρίου, της Οδηγήτριας, της Περιβλέπτου και της Παντάνασσας, να γίνουν αποδέκτες των ιδιαίτερων χαρακτηριστικών της συγκεκριμένης ιδιαίτερης ζωγραφικής περιόδου μέσα στην Ορθόδοξη Ανατολική Εκκλησία όπως είναι η Παλαιολόγεια τέχνη και να αποκομίσουν παιδαγωγικά, κοινωνικά, πολιτισμικά, ιστορικά και εικαστικά οφέλη.
Οι δραστηριότητες όπου σχεδιάστηκαν καλύπτουν ένα ευρύ φάσμα διδακτικών τεχνικών, μέσω διαφόρων υλικών (ζωγραφική, κατασκευές, παζλ, κ.α.) ώστε να ανταποκρίνονται στις ιδιαιτερότητες των ηλικιακών ομάδων μαθητών/τριών του Δημοτικού και του Γυμνασίου, παρέχοντας τη δυνατότητα στα παιδιά να εξοικειωθούν με τη συγκεκριμένη ζωγραφική περίοδο μέσα στην βυζαντινή ιστορία, κατανοώντας τη σημασία της, βιώνοντας την ως ένα λειτουργικό μέσο έκφρασης που δίνει πλαίσιο και αφορμές για προσωπική δημιουργία.
Λόγω της πανδημίας COVID-19 πολλά εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα δεν μπόρεσαν να παρουσιαστούν στο μαθητικό κοινό. Κύριος στόχος πλέον του εν λόγω προγράμματος είναι η ψηφιοποίηση του υλικού και η παρουσίαση του μέσω διαφόρων τεχνικών (video, χρήση drone, πολυμεσικό περιβάλλον, κα) όπου θα αποτυπωθούν αρχικά τα μνημεία και μετά ο τοιχογραφικός διάκοσμος για να παρουσιαστεί κατάλληλα στους μαθητές/τριες.

V rámci přípravy publikace velké reprezentativní knihy o barokním zámeckém divadle v Českém Krumlově, jsem byl v roce 2015 požádán kastelánem zámku panem Pavlem Slavkem, zda bych nezpracoval dochovaný fond osvětlovacích těles zámeckého divadla. Jako restaurátor jsem se neomezil pouze na dokumentaci dochovaného fondu, ale některé vybrané typy svítidel byly v průběhu prací také restaurovány a byly provedeny světelné zkoušky s patřičnými historickými médii. Pro úplnou představu o způsobu osvětlení barokních divadel, je do kapitoly o světlech začleněno i něco málo z historie osvětlování divadel. Kniha sice ještě nebyla publikována, ale podle posledních informací. by měla jít do tiskárny v roce 2026. Bylo pro mě ctí se podílet na vzniku této knihy.
