One of the newest tools for language learning is AI-powered chatbots which allow students to engage in interactive conversations with a chatbot. English Central is a digital language learning platform that allows students to watch videos, study vocabulary, and produce spoken language through short interactive videos. In addition to these three core components, English Central has recently added a chatbot powered by ChatGPT. This paper shares the results of a pilot study that analyzed data from Japanese university students who engaged in interactions with this chatbot. The authors introduce quantitative data showing the quantity and quality of the interactions and discuss the strategies they implemented to encourage longer interactions. A student feedback survey was conducted and the results of this are also shared. The results suggested that although many students reported benefits to using a chatbot, the strategies implemented did not lead to significantly longer interactions, and that many students felt frustrated when the chatbot did not understand their utterances.

Large language models (LLMs) have recently become a popular topic in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, with companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Amazon, Tesla, and Apple (GAFA) investing heavily in their development. These models are trained on massive amounts of data and can be used for a wide range of tasks, including language translation, text generation, and question answering. However, the computational resources required to train and run these models are substantial, and the cost of hardware and electricity can be prohibitive for research labs that do not have the funding and resources of the GAFA. In this paper, we will examine the impact of LLMs on AI research. The pace at which such models are generated as well as the range of domains covered is an indication of the trend which not only the public but also the scientific community is currently experiencing. We give some examples on how to use such models in research by focusing on GPT3.5/ChatGPT3.4 and ChatGPT4 at the current state and show that such a range of capabilities in a single system is a strong sign of approaching general intelligence. Innovations integrating such models will also expand along the maturation of such AI systems and exhibit unforeseeable applications that will have important impacts on several aspects of our societies.

A chatbot is a computer program that aims to make a conversation between both humans and machines. The chatbot can be utilized in a variety of platforms, including messaging apps and virtual assistants. The chatbot has evolved a lot in decades starting from amusement usage to performing serious tasks. While designing a chatbot, design considerations like purpose, audience, channels, conversational flow, testing and iterations must be taken into account in order to ensure that it is accurate and user-friendly. Based on its domain, model, and conversation style, a chatbot can be categorized into customer-service, sales, informational, personal assistant, entertainment, health and educational chatbot. Chatbot technology continues to face a wide variety of challenges like contextual understanding, integration with backend systems, personalization, security and user acceptance. This paper explores and compares various recent chatbots from different domains that are being used. We have surveyed the entire development process and the different development techniques used to design chatbots and the audience they cater to. We also look at the various evaluation methodologies used in checking the efficiency and enforceability of the considered chatbots.
This abstract includes the total quantum of the chatbot. A new approach to computer-to-mortal business is handed by conversational interfaces, or chatbots as they're generally known. In the history, exercising a quest machine or completing a form was demanded in order to have a software programme respond to a query, as programs were fully reckoned on syntax and semantics of the programming language and it was veritably delicate for the nonprogrammers to communicate with computers. With a chatbot, a customer may principally interrogate request the same way they would with a mortal. Voice chatbots like Alexa and Siri are right now the most well-known feathers of chatbots. On the other hand, chatbot handover rates on computer discourse platforms are presently truly strong. You may make a introductory chatbot by adding generally asked questions (FAQs) to chatbot software. major invention companies to prepare common shoptalk. Integrating the chatbot with the company's enterprise software can enhance its capabilities. The maturity of marketable chatbots calculate on platforms developed by the major technology companies to exercise natural language. Amazon Lex, IBM Watson, Face book Deep Text, Google Cloud Natural Language API, Slack, Skype, and Microsoft Cognitive Services are a numerous of these.

Both dialogue systems and chatbots aim at putting into action communication between humans and computers. However, instead of focusing on sophisticated techniques to perform natural language understanding, as the former usually do, chatbots seek to mimic conversation. Since Eliza, the first chatbot ever, developed in 1966, there were many interesting ideas explored by the chatbots' community. Actually, more than just ideas, some chatbots' developers also provide free resources, including tools and large-scale corpora. It is our opinion that this know-how and materials should not be neglected, as they might be put to use in the human-computer communication field (and some authors already do it). Thus, in this paper we present a historical overview of the chatbots' developments, we review what we consider to be the main contributions of this community, and we point to some possible ways of coupling these with current work in the human-computer communication research line.
