Abstract

Cryptocurrency or crypto currency in the digital era is not easy, especially for ordinary people. However, the presence of this digital currency is increasingly in demand as an investment instrument. Bitcoin security is protected by Blockchain technology. However, Bitcoin does not have an underlying asset (underlaying asset) and there is no responsible authority, ownership is anonymous, extreme fluctuations in value, and is more dominated by the marketing system opinion publication factor. That is why the use of Bitcoin in investment and business transactions raises pros and cons among economic experts and scholars. This study aims to get an idea of what bitcoin is and what the scholars think based on Islamic law. This research is literature study. The data sources of this research were taken from the Koran, the Prophet's hadith, classical and contemporary books, as well as from online media sources. From this research, the results show that Bitcoin technology with Blockchain can indeed be recognized as a very good revolutionary technology, but its use as an investment instrument contains elements of maysir (betting) and as a business transaction instrument contains gharar elements. Its legal position is haram lighairihi.
