A polemical essay on Substack about the curious fact that even complex, postmodern novels don't include mathematics, science, or engineering. Even Cormac MacCarthy's "Stella Maris" paraphrases physics. Actual mathematics and physics can be difficult, but given the last hundred years of experimental writing, which has often privileged juxtapositions of genre, experimental forms, "inexpressive" prose, and difficulty, it's not clear why science and mathematics are still kept at arm's length in fiction.

The genre of metapoetry thematizes the fictional elements – the inspiration of a poet, his poetic process, meta-poetic metaphors, the role of the poet in society, and intertextual references – partaking in the making of poetry explicitly or implicitly carried through a poem within a poem technique. This paper presents Eva Müller-Zettlemann’s theoretical pronunciation of meta-poetic elements, i. e., poetic inspiration, poetic process, and meta-poetic metaphors, at play in the metalyrics of Taufiq Rafat from his anthologies Arrival of the Monsoon: Collected Poems 1947-78 (1985) and Half Moon: Poems 1979-1983 (2008). Rafat’s inspiration is the South-Asian terra firma and lived experience that makes him infuse the regional sensibility through a poetic process of perceiving and penning down immediately. A xenopoem is a speculative, avant-garde form of poetry that transcends traditional human language and semiotics, often embodying alien, non-human, or posthuman perspectives. It functions as a linguistic or biosemiotic "glitch," disrupting conventional meaning-making through fragmented, recursive, or algorithmic structures. Drawing from experimental art and systems biology, xenopoems act like portals or mutational vectors, reconfiguring cognition, space, or even planetary  ecosystems. They are not merely read but inhabited by non-human entities—like microbial intelligences or AI—as self-executing scripts or topological shifts in reality.

Key characteristics include:

Alien semiotics: Incorporates untranslatable  or non-human linguistic systems, challenging human cognition.

Glitch ontology: Acts as a disruptive "virus" in bio-digital or planetary architectures, fostering adaptive mutations.

Posthuman focus: Engages with distributed cognition, cross-species communication, or technomorphosis, often bypassing human-centric narratives.

Interplanetary design: May manifest as fractalized data structures embedded in extraterrestrial habitats, rewriting environments.

This paper offers a new perspective on a well-known topic: Seneca's quotations from the Aeneid in his Moral Epistles. It takes as a starting point the commonly held view that Seneca uses Virgil, sometimes altering the text, sometimes decontextualizing it, to support his Stoic ideas, but without implying that this was originally in Virgil's mind. An analysis of both the content and the form of the quotations shows that Seneca uses them not only to convey Stoic ideas but also to provide a narrative. Regarding the content, Seneca avoids descriptive passages, preferring instead passages focussed on a few key concepts: virtue and fighting, god and fate, death. These are at the same time the main themes of the epic poem and those of the Moral Epistles. The distribution of the themes throughout the collection and the contextualization of the quoted Virgilian lines reveal a narrative behind Seneca's choices, which in the beginning aims at improving one's virtue and then proceeds, toward the end, to an acceptance of death. As the author of his Epistles, Seneca uses the quotations from the Aeneid to describe his coming to terms with death. This is further stressed by the frequency of dialogic exchanges among the quoted lines: given the overlap between the fictive dialogue of the letter (author/reader) and that of the quoted lines, there is an identification of the two epistolary characters with the epic ones, and this contributes to Seneca's self-portrayal as a master of philosophy and as an old man facing his approaching end.

Este estudo tem o propósito de estudar a construção das vozes, a memória e a nação no romance "O Outono do Patriarca" do escritor colombiano Gabriel García Márquez. O eixo da obra é a discussão da presença das ditaduras na América Latina desde as independências até o século XX. A pesquisa defende que a narração oral utilizada na obra, em associação à memória dos personagens, com seus múltiplos pontos de vista sobre o passado que vivenciaram, abre a possibilidade de compreender o romance como uma luta pelo direito de construção de outras histórias da nação. As vozes heterogêneas da nação são trazidas à cena e participam do processo de negociação e diálogo numa reformulação da narrativa da nação, demonstrando que há outras versões sobre a história nacional. Para isso, García Márquez produziu um efeito de várias vozes, que lutam para construir outras histórias da pátria, diferentes da oficial, exercendo o que o crítico uruguaio Hugo Achugar denominou de "direitos de memória". A construção das vozes no romance é estudada à luz do dialogismo de Mikhail Bakhtin e da transculturação narrativa do crítico uruguaio Ángel Rama. Já a questão da nação é focada pela perspectiva de Benedict Anderson e a memória é enfocada à luz das considerações de Hugo Achugar e de Paul Ricoeur.

Статтю присвячено актуальній проблемі сучасної лінгвостилістикидослідженню ідіостилю українського письменника Романа Іваничука. У запропонованій роботі розглянуто лексичні одиниці, зокрема синоніми, антоніми, історизми, неологізми, діалектизми, чужомовні слова, сукупність яких відтворює ідіолект прозаїка, відбиває його індивідуально-авторську мовну картину світу, вирізняє митця як оригінальну мовну особистість з-поміж інших. Здійснено семантико-стилістичний аналіз цих засобів, обґрунтовано доцільність їхнього введення в тканину художнього твору, показано ефективні прийоми використання та продуктивність уживання в аналізованих текстах. Ключові слова: лексичний засіб, семантико-стилістичний аналіз, ідіостиль письменника, індивідуально-мовна картина світу, мовна особистість, художній твір. Статья посвящена актуальной проблеме современной лингвостилистики -исследованию идиостиля украинского писателя Романа Иванычука. В предлагаемой работе рассмотрено лексические единицы, в том числе синонимы, антонимы, историзмы, неологизмы, диалектизмы, иноязычные слова, совокупность которых воспроизводит идиолект писателя, отражает его индивидуально-авторскую языковую картину мира, отличает художника как оригинальную языковую личность среди других. Осуществлен семантикостилистический анализ этих средств, обоснована целесообразность их введения в ткань художественного произведения, показано эффективные приемы использования и продуктивность употребления в анализируемых текстах. The aim of the article is to study the semantic and stylistic features of lexical resources in the historical novels of the prose writer, the complex of which reproduces the idiolect of the writer, reflects individual author's view of the world, distinguishes the artist among others as on original language personality.

La representación de los afectos en la obra de sor Juana Inés de la Cruz demanda de aproximaciones que contemplen distintos contextos filosóficos, literarios, de género, sociales, políticos, simbólicos. Abordaré el tema a partir la cultura y poética cortesanas y su expresión en el amor cortés, en relación con el giro afectivo, perspectivas relacionadas entre sí. Propongo que, en su tratamiento de las pasiones, a contrapelo de la convención que le atribuye una primacía de la racionalidad, la poeta mexicana revaloriza las emociones y relativiza, al mismo tiempo, el binarismo genéricamente connotado de “pasión-razón”, dominante en la cultura de su tiempo. Asimismo, sor Juana realiza transformaciones y reescrituras de la tradición literaria metropolitana, marcando una diferencia que singulariza su lugar enunciativo.

Die sich in den letzten Jahren abzeichnende Konjunktur der Narratologie ging mit einer umfassenden Ausweitung ihres Gegenstandsbereichs einher: Erzäh-len als kulturanthropologische Konstante wurde als transkulturelles,-histori-sches,-mediales und-generisches Phänomen (wieder)erkannt, und das "Narra-tive" avancierte zu einem beliebten Schlagwort für sozial-, kultur-wie litera-turwissenschaftliche Forschungsanliegen. Possest-PQF is not a theory of consciousness. It is a topological construct that treats awareness not as a state, process, or representation, but as a rhythmic interference field generated by differential accessibility. There are no stable entities, no epistemic continuity, and no self-reflective subject. Unlike a real bacterium, Xenobacillus glossophagii is not a scientifically recognized species but a speculative entity used to explore themes of cosmic cannibalism, glossolalia (nonsensical or chaotic speech), and the breakdown of meaning systems.In narrative, the bacterium embodies a dual nature: a literal pathogen and a vehicle for disrupting traditional communication, driving hosts toward madness, dissolution, and rebirth. It "infects" the mind, replacing coherent thought with chaotic, alien-like language that destabilizes the psyche and reconfigures perception, much like a biological pathogen rewrites a host’s genetic code. This aligns with the idea of language as a parasitic force that transcends mere communication, acting as a vector for existential and cosmic transformation. The work draws parallels to ecological shifts caused by invasive species, suggesting that glossolalic language disrupts the "ecosystem" of the human mind, creating a new, alien order, which includes a paper by Zoetica Ebb titled "Hybrid Futures: Human Adaptation in Symbiotic Ecosystems." In the synaptic biofilms of Homo sapiens, the excess of exocytotic drive signals not adaptation, but the onset of semiotic glut. Through xenobacillological reflection, we explore the hypothesis that overexpression of SNAP-25 represents not simply neurotransmitter dysregulation but the pathological semiotization of neuronal interfaces, generating a "schizosemiotic overflow" that decomposes coherent symbolic integration. Integrating postmortem data, CSF protein assays, and commentary from bacteriologists, we argue for a reframing of SNAP-25 pathology as a linguistic disorder at the interface of bioelectric code and meaning. Lepidoglossum sapiens-a glottogenic species known for its specialized glossobacterial cortex-interprets psychiatric pathologies not through behavioral symptoms alone, but as failures in the neurosemiotic tethering of reality.

This paper examines the predicament of infertility and how women often bear the blame for it in patriarchal African societies. The study explores the themes of womanhood and infertility in modern African novels, focusing on Asare Konadu"s A Woman in Her Prime and Ifeoma Okoye"s Behind the Clouds. In these novels, Konadu and Okoye address various cultural pressures within marriage that are prevalent among Black women in many African communities. The paper discusses the dilemmas, challenges and unbearable pain faced by women who are frequently blamed for infertility in marriage, without consideration of the fact that medical causes of infertility are non-discriminatory. The study is anchored in womanism as its theoretical framework, an offshoot of feminist theory, which advocates for the removal of legal and social restrictions on women to achieve equality between the sexes in both private and public life. The research concludes that although African women"s identities are often tied to motherhood, they are unjustly subjected to harassment and dehumanization due to the sterility of their male counterparts.

Flavi Ludus is an award-winning Latin poem by Luigi Galante (1877–1926), magna laus at the Certamen Hoeufftianum in Amsterdam in 1918. It has hardly been studied properly, though it brings together many of the themes which Véronique Dasen’s has pursued during her scholarly career: agency of the educator (the schoolteacher), children preferring play over work at
school, and a child prodigy who fancies the beauty of nature and art. This article will bring together philological analysis with socio-cultural history of antiquity and intellectual history / history of ideas of late nineteenth and early twentieth century Italy.

The following contribution aims to analyse two adaptations of Pier Paolo Pasolini's Teorema, written and directed by, respectively, Grzegorz Jarzyna and Mikołaj Mikołajczyk. In the first, T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T., Jarzyna works both on Pasolini's novel and film, creating a performance composed of the distorted use of the voice, silent dialogues and proximity games, producing a highly conceptual effect. In his Wszystko jutro, czyli lalki wybawione, Mikołajczyk, on the other hand, recreates Pasolini's story as a choreographed drama, which examines the dilemmas posed by the Italian author.

Sin embargo, detrás de estas suspicacias sobre las intenciones del que acomete el acto de ruptura se asienta otra pregunta sobre la vigencia del gesto mismo de romper con la tradición, las afiliaciones o las "influencias". Gesto propiamente vanguardista, por cierto. Dicho de otro modo, ¿son posibles todavía los gestos de vanguardia? O como todo lo que acontece en la era posvanguardista lo único que prevalece es apenas una mueca desencantada que ni siquiera escandaliza Y si lo hace su alcance se mide de acuerdo al número de minutos de televisación y o líneas periodísticas que es capaz de ganar antes de que otra "novedad" absorba y diseque la anterior. Lo dicho viene a cuento del "escándalo" que suscitó la tapa de un libro del escritor chileno Eduardo Labarca, titulado El enigma de los módulos. Dicha tapa muestra al escritor supuestamente orinando la tumba de Jorge Luis Borges. La editorial chilena que lo publicó retiró los ejemplares del mercado luego de las amenazas de posibles demandas judiciales. En dicho contexto debe leerse la carta a una amiga argentina que Labarca escribe para dar su punto de vista sobre el tema. Nos parece un documento de interés que refresca algunos asuntos polémicos en torno a las rupturas, las valoraciones literarias, por un lado, y las éticas, por el otro, hechas sobre los escritores, ello vale tanto para Borges (el "ofendido") como para Labarca ( el "ofensor"). A este texto lo precede un análisis del libro en cuestión -El enigma de los módulos-, escrito por Eduardo Barraza un profundo conocedor de la obra de Labarca. El lector podrá juzgar por sí mismo dónde reside lo más relevante si en el contexto polémico o en el texto mismo del escritor chileno.

In a universe populated by singularities, is there room for accompaniment? Departing from Sam Weber's discussion of Kafka's story "Josefine the Songstress, or the People of Mice," in which "whistling" figures at every turn against interpretive expectation and at every overturning of conventional accounts of sociability and representational discourse, this essay explores the ground and consequences of literary singularity in and for broader claims about collectivity and impermanence, vulnerability and separation. To do so, the essay recovers the traces of another "whistling" that, as Weber reveals in a recent interview, "has accompanied [him] throughout [his] life": Uncle Toby's "whistling Lullabullero," which in Tristram Shandy meets any attempt to "pin things down" or extract general conclusions with the anti-performative and the absurd. Frustrating conventional divisions between voice, speech and discourse, Josefine's "fricative" whistling exposes the conventions of sociability as "situationally relative" and unable to fully erase their alternatives. Coyly attuning the interpretive process to the force of ambiguity, Toby's whistling musters another thinking altogether on the situational and the social, one that unsettles the settled for the sake of the ungrounded and keeps language and code alike constantly open to revision.

Ce texte met en lumière l’existence d’un corpus réaliste au sein même de la culture postmoderne. L’analyse suggère qu’un tel réalisme postmoderne doit faire appel à un présupposé de confiance cognitive vis-à-vis des apparences de la réalité sociale.
