Indonesian students who study in Singapore experience a lot of cultural shock. This happened because of the many differences in the education system between Indonesia and Singapore. This study aims to analyze the cultural shock experienced by Indonesian students in Singapore. The research applied a qualitative descriptive research method that using library research based on Sverre Lysgaard (1955) theory, some Indonesian students who are still in college and have also graduated from college in the last 5 years in Singapore became the object of research in the internet site "Quora" about how it's like studying in Singapore. The result shows that many Indonesian students experience cultural shock based on the opinions or comments given in the comments column. The percentage of stages experienced by Indonesian students shows that the honeymoon stage is 20%, frustration stage is 30%, adjustment stage is 20%, and also adaptation stage is 30%. There are many differences in the education system in Indonesia and Singapore which are the main challenges in getting an education, one of which is about activities in learning and the attendance system in class. People entering a new environment could experience a cultural shock. It can also happen to students who study at a place where the culture is different from their home culture as they may feel unsettled and anxious. Previous studies uncovered the sources of cultural shock, such as being a different culture, having different expectations, facing different customs, speaking a different dialect. Kalvero Oberg (1960) mentioned six negative feelings caused by culture shock, which were: (1) strain resulting from the effort of psychological adaption; (2) a sense of loss or deprivation referring to the removal of former friends, status, role, and possessions; (3) rejection by or rejection of the new culture; (4) confusion in the role definition, role expectations, feelings, and self-identity; (5) unexpected anxiety, disgust, or indignation regarding cultural differences between the old and new ways; and (6) feelings of helplessness as a result of not coping well in the new environment. Other adverse effects of a cultural shock were discouragement, lethargy, depression, suspicion, boredom, homesickness, anger, extreme sensitivity, irritability, loneliness and loss of familiarity. For students studying in a different cultural setting, this cultural shock may have a negative impact on them. This research aims to reveal the dominant cause of cultural shock and its effect on the students who are studying at Universitas Katolik De La Salle Manado-Indonesia. This study used the Analytical Hierarchy Process for data gathering and analysis. The respondents were students of Universitas Katolik De La Salle Manado who came from different provinces of the country. This study benefited the management of the University to improve the program that handled this cultural shock being experienced by the students to enhance their studies at the University.

This present study was designed to examine the potential culture shocks experienced by foreign students in Indonesian university. There were 10 foreign students who responded to the questionnaires sent by the writer through BIPA in the foreign students' universities. It was found that there were three points of academic life that make foreign students experience culture shock. Those are teacher's roles and attitude; poorly organized program; and the local students' attitude. In social life, the writer also found that foreign students experienced culture shock in 3 aspects, those are: women-men relationship; different way of thinking and different habits.

This paper explores cultural shock experiences encountered by African students studying in Indonesian Universities. The study used qualitative approach to collect data through in-depth face-to-face interviews with African students and participant observation. The findings of the study reveal that many African students had experienced unfamiliar situation that are different from those of their home countries in the course of study in Indonesia. Such situation leads to what is called “culture shock”, which includes new academic life, culture fatigue, language barrier and food outlets. The study has shown that most of the stress had a profound impact on shaping their acculturation and living in Indonesia. Coming into a new place will bring cultural shocks especially in educational purposes as for many Indonesia's students who just have studied in the foreign country, especially in Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. They will experience more difficulties to adjust themselves into the new place. This study aims at identifying the factorts contributing cultural shock experienced by Indonesia's students who have just studied in Al-Azhar University. The significance of this research lies on the importance of acknowledging cross-cultural adjustment in the foreign country. 18 students in their year 1 and 2 are the participants of this research. This research employs quantitative survey research method through questionnaire. The finding indicates that the major factors contribute to culture shock are the social norms, language, and food.

In recent years, the growing trend of globalisation has significantly made culture shock start to be experienced by more people around the world. This paper takes the theoretical base of culture shock into account and pays close attention to how an Indonesian student adapted to some new cultural patterns of the U.S. college life. First of all, the four stages of culture shock are elaborated. Next, it describes a sequence of experiences and feelings of the informant when dealing with some adaptation to the U.S. college life and culture. The figures depicted are of the Javanese, ethnic Chinese, Muslim, Catholic, and Buddhist ethnicities. In recent years, there are a lot of popular Asian films or dramas that got Indonesian remake. It leads to cultural shifts between the original one and the remake version which receives a good reaction from the viewers. Among the Indonesian remake films, the researchers found a significant cultural shift in Sweet 20, 2017 Indonesian film which is produced based on a popular South Korean film, Miss Granny. The aim of this research is to reveal the cultural differences contained in the films Sweet 20 and Miss Granny. This research employs analysis descriptive analytical analysis as the technique to analyze the data and use the theory of transcultural adaptation by Linda Hutcheon (2006), Koentjaraningrat's theory which concerns seven elements of cultures and supported by Bronislaw Malinowski. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because it is related to the data which are text and visual taken from the dialogues and visualizations in Miss Granny and Sweet 20 films. Meanwhile, the researchers apply three techniques for data collection: observation (watching the films), documentation (documenting the dialogues), and recording (screenshotting the scenes). After examining it, the researchers found five elements as cultural shifts between Miss Granny and Sweet 20; namely religious system, social norms, art, living equipment, and language.
