This study investigates the comfort levels and preferences of students regarding print and electronic texts within the context of their academic pursuits. The chief objective is to assess how these formats influence students' reading experiences and academic performance. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were collected through surveys administered to students in School Business Management and Accountancy, complemented by qualitative interviews to gain deeper insights. Results indicate that while students reported higher comfort level with electronic texts, they still exhibit a strong preference for print materials for tasks requiring deep concentration. Statistical analysis reveals significant differences in comfort levels, with electronic texts providing greater ease of use. The findings suggest that although digital formats are increasingly accepted, print texts remain essential for fostering focus and comprehension. In conclusion, this study highlights the need for educational institutions to adopt a hybrid approach that integrates both formats, catering to diverse student preferences while enhancing overall learning outcomes. Recommendations include enhancing digital literacy programs and providing resources that support both reading formats effectively.

In this paper we examine how children affect happiness and relationships within a family by analyzing two unique questions in the National Longitudinal Study of Youth's 1997 cohort. We find that (a) presence of children is associated with a loss of spousal love; (b) loss of spousal love is associated with loss of overall happiness; but (c) presence of children is not associated with significant loss of overall happiness. If children reduce feelings of being loved by the spouse but do not reduce reported happiness even though spousal love induces happiness, then it must be the case that children contribute to parental happiness by providing other benefits. After ruling out some competing compensation mechanisms we infer that loss of spousal love is compensated with altruistic feelings towards children.

This one-group pretest-posttest design of the study aimed at determining the reading proficiency of Grade 3 pupils as influenced by reading remediation materials. This study utilized the purposive sampling method wherein a total of 31 learners from Apolinar Franco Sr. Elementary School, Bato, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur during the third quarter period were selected as the research subjects of this study. The research subjects' reading proficiency was measured by a phonemic awareness screener employed by the researcher. The statistical tools utilized were the mean and Paired Sample T-test. Results revealed that before implementing the remedial reading materials, the level of reading proficiency of the learners needs intervention, which implies that learners struggle with phonemic awareness development. The result showed an improvement in the reading proficiency of the learners afterwards being exposed to the Localized, Guided and Results-Based (LGB) Remediation Materials. The reading proficiency of the learners was found to be at mastery level. Finally, the study revealed that the Localized, Guided and Results-Based (LGB) Remediation Materials improves the reading proficiency of the Grade 3 pupils.

In order to test the mediating role of perceived competence between each goal orientation (i.e. task and ego orientations) and intrinsic motivation in a motivational sequence in the context of university education, two models based on the cognitive evaluation theory and the achievement goal theory were tested with 276 Bolivian undergraduate students (138 males, 138 females), who completed Spanish versions of instruments designed to assess motivation, perceived competence, and positive emotions and interest. Two models were found with structural equation modeling techniques, one for ego orientation and one for task orientation. Results showed that perceived competence acts as a good mediator in the relation between ego orientation and intrinsic motivation, and as a partial mediator in the relation between task orientation and intrinsic motivation.

O trabalho analisa as representações sociais dos jovens acerca de seus problemas, e das formas de enfrentá-los, com base em 39 entrevistas realizadas junto a moradores de Duque de Caxias, de ambos os sexos, com idade variando entre 13 e 22 anos. A análise mostra que a representação de problemas se esclarece por oposição aos projetos de vida dos jovens, estruturados em torno da estabilidade econômica e afetiva. Caberia ao jovem evitar os desvios que inviabilizam a realização de seu projeto de vida. Para isso, eles contam essencialmente com a ajuda de seus familiares e amigos, representados ao mesmo tempo como a maior fonte de apoio e um grande problema quando não atendem às expectativas de suporte e auxílio.

This research looks at how communication can help victims of abusive relationships maintain their relationships. The goal of this study is to first figure out how victims can stay in abusive relationships, and then to figure out how victims' experiences in abusive relationships are described. The notion of Interpersonal Communication and the theory of Relationship Maintenance were applied in this study. This research employed a phenomenological method and a qualitative approach with a constructivism paradigm. The information was gathered by interviews or in-depth interviews with four sources, and the results were assessed using the source triangulation data validity technique. The findings revealed that relationship violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial. During and after the occurrence of violence, abusive relationships tend to go through cycles. Even though they are in an abusive relationship, the perpetrator still engages in relationship maintenance behaviors such as giving praise, being open to each other, providing certainty in relationships, doing tasks together, and interacting with others, as stated in the relationship maintenance theory. Victims of abusive relationships have their own reasons for staying in abusive relationships, such as the fact that they have been in an abusive relationship for a long time, still love them, and are frightened to leave.

Meritocracy is understood as a system of distribution based on individual effort and talent. It has been widely questioned for its role in legitimizing social inequalities, given that it would lead to attributing personal success or failure to individual factors over social determinants. This research focuses on how some notions of meritocracy are learned during the school stage, considering the possible influence of socializing agents such as the family and the school. Using data from students and their families in 3 regions of Chile (N= 1,635 students from 64 schools), we analyze the extent to which parents' meritocratic perceptions are associated with their children, as well as the influence of the school experience of justice on grades. The results partially demonstrate that meritocratic perceptions are transmitted intergenerationally. Nevertheless, we find little evidence that this relationship is affected by the experience of distributive justice at school.

As the world becomes ever-expanding through internationalization and digitization of human connection, the ideologies of global citizenship and transhumanism have become prescient political projects in the United States. Global citizenship promotes an expanded sense of self which embraces peoples and cultures from around the world and is predicted by a normative environment and global awareness (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013a). Global citizenship identification robustly predicts prosocial values related to intergroup helping and empathy, environmentalism, and social justice. Transhumanism, advocates for the use of technological advancements to improve well-being and reduce suffering in humanity (Bostrom, 2005). Transhumanists tend to promote interconnectedness of humanity and think of technological intervention as a means to manage the evolutionary trajectory of the species. The present study aimed to assess the relationship between global citizenship identification and transhumanist orientation via a survey of college students (N = 1,069). Results indicated that transhumanist orientation is a reliable, positive predictor of global citizenship identification, antecedents of identification, as well as prosocial outcomes. The findings inform the way we conceptualize identity in an increasingly globalized world facilitated by technological advancement.

Background: Research shows that grit is one of the non-cognitive factors that a ect academic achievement among college students. As a result, grit has of late attracted attention among academic circles. Methods: We used a correlational research design and a quantitative technique to establish the association between grit and academic achievement among pre-service science teachers. The sample was taken using a census and comprised 381 participants. The study site was a university of science and technology in Mbarara city, Uganda. A selfadministered questionnaire was used for data collection. The analytical strategy was linear regression models, at a signi cance of p ≤.05. Results: In the ndings, 22.69 (SD = 1.43) was the mean age of the study participants. The majority of the students were male (80.3%) and government-sponsored (53.3%). There was a signi cant and positive association between grit and the academic achievement of the students (B =.231, p <.001). Overall, 5.1% of students' academic achievement was explained by grit. Conclusion: Grit is a relatively important non-academic element that predicts academic achievement among pre-service teachers of science. Focused intervention is necessary for improving undergraduate students' grit and enhancing their achievement in their Science with Education program.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji dan menganalisis : (1) Pengaruh kualitas layanan terhadap kepuasan nasabah pada BPD Sultra Cabang Utama; (2) Pengaruh kualitas layanan terhadap komitmen nasabah pada BPD Sultra Cabang Utama; (3) Pengaruh kepuasan terhadap komitmen nasabah pada BPD Sultra Cabang Utama. Penelitian ini menggunakan sampel 121 orang nasabah tabungan BPD Sultra Cabang Utama. Metode analisa data yang digunakan adalah statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial dangan alat analisis yang digunakan adalah Struktural Equation Modelling (SEM). Dengan menggunakan paket program AMOS versi. 16.0. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa ada pengaruh dan signifikan antar veriabel kualitas layanan, kepuasan dan komitmen nasabah BPD Cabang Kendari.

This article delves into the leadership experiences of Ukrainian Christian forced migrants amidst the ongoing aggressive war against Ukraine. Drawing from theoretical frameworks related to trauma and forced migration, as well as leadership models, this research seeks to comprehend the intricacies of leadership exhibited by Ukrainian displaced individuals. Based on qualitative data from 130 participants, the study identifies key themes concerning leadership during wartime. It contributes to the development of a trauma-sensitive theology of leadership and offers insights into the leadership development requirements of Ukrainians post-war. The insights gathered from these refugees reveal that wartime leadership is dynamic and multifaceted. It encompasses values, adaptability, compassion, and Christian spirituality, extending beyond traditional models to prioritize the well-being of individuals and communities. The experiences and perspectives of these refugees offer valuable lessons for understanding leadership in the most challenging of circumstances, emphasizing the enduring importance of empathy, resilience, and faith in guiding individuals and communities through times of war.

Employee commitment and job performance are considered to be an issue in Federal University Dutsin-ma to achieve high employee performance.  The objective of this study is to study the employee commitment in relation to the performance of FUDMA Staff. The study investigated the impact of three dimensions of employee commitment-continuance, normative and affective commitments on employee Job performance. The researcher adopted a descriptive survey research design; total sample of 299 were selected using convenience sampling technique.  Questionnaires were used to collect the data. Since Giving Tuesday was introduced in 2012, it has inspired more than $1 billion in donations. Last year, estimated giving topped $300 million. These numbers sound big -and they are. But they obscure the fact that relatively few individuals and families make charitable contributions: For example, in a typical year 45 percent of Americans give not even a single dollar, and 75 percent spend no time volunteering. And this is a shame, because giving is an important way to help others, contribute to the public good and build the trust that glues a society together. One important step to encouraging more people to give is increasing our understanding of what motivates giving. When we better understand why people donate, we can be inspired to be more generous. Charitable giving involves a complex array of motivations. I recently reviewed 14 projects funded by the University of Notre Dame's Science of Generosity initiative that studied the manifestations, causes and consequences of giving. Researchers found that even twins, despite their similar genetic makeup, behaved differently based on their ability to take on the perspective of another person. Some people give because of tax incentives (which may explain why charitable giving was down a bit last year: Changes in the tax code made giving less advantageous for some families). A second motive also has to do with economics: Many people feel they simply can't afford to give. Their willingness to give also depends on whether they view charitable organizations as honest and efficient. People can also give simply because they want to make the world a better place. In my research, I've discovered that the most compelling reasons for people to give are social and relational benefits beyond the self. My colleague Heather E. Price and I found that people exist in a web of giving affiliations. People are more likely to give to charitable and religious causes when they have parents who were givers and partners who are supportive of giving, and when religious affiliations regularly expose them to religious-based calls to give. Living within generous social contexts matters. So, too, do friend groups. My colleague Song Yang and I found that people are more likely to donate when they have friends who donate and who ask them to donate. As individuals it is important to see that there is no magical time in life when one suddenly becomes prepared to give, by having more money left to spend or more time on one's hands. Many people assume that as students they are too busy to volunteer, or as a young parents they are too financially squeezed to donate. But in my research, I learned that there are constraints on time and money at every stage in life. We can motivate ourselves to give throughout our lives, in whatever ways one can, by surrounding ourselves in giving-supportive contexts. We also need to be that giving-supportive context for others.

This chapter explains how visuals enhance the study of social problems through four examples of data collection and research dissemination. The first example studies meaning differentiation by examining photographs that represent the concept of community. The second studies social isolation via network graphs of social media connectivity. In the third example, the problem of racial segregation is critically analyzed through maps that serve as visual tools for disseminating information about this social problem. The fourth example also considers visuals in the context of data dissemination, studying how the use of data visualization ("DataViz") to teach undergraduates about income inequality impacts their behavior.

This research investigates the patterns of language use and maintenance of communities in Wakasihu State, Central Maluku, and highlights various factors that influence language maintenance. This research seeks to reveal the complexity of maintaining the use of regional languages in Wakasihu State by looking at social variables such as age, gender, education and employment on language maintenance patterns. By using a quantitative descriptive approach enriched with mixed methods, this study combines the depth of qualitative insight with the breadth of quantitative data. Qualitative techniques, including observation, notetaking and interviews, provide a complex picture of the linguistic landscape of the Wakasihu community. To complement this, quantitative data was collected through a random questionnaire distributed to 50 communities. This questionnaire investigated the use of regional languages, their users, and how they are maintained. The findings of this study explain the dynamics of the use of interesting language in Wakasihu Country. Age is an important factor, the older generation shows a higher level of language retention. In contrast, the younger generation shows a lower level of retention of their local language. This generational shift signifies a change in the linguistic landscape in society. This study underscores the complex relationship between social dynamics, attitudes, and patterns of language use, offering a comprehensive understanding of how these factors influence language preservation and vitality. As the linguistic landscape develops, cultivating positive attitudes and awareness among the younger generation is essential for the survival of the Hitu dialect of the Wakasihu language. Moreover, the results of this research have implications not only for the Wakasihu community but also for similar linguistic contexts around the world, and constitute a strong call for proactive steps to safeguard our linguistic heritage.

The article explores the role of teachers in contemporary schools in light of the cultural and technological transformations taking place in today's society. Through a critical review of the scientific literature, an analysis has been made of innovative teaching methods such as project-based learning, service learning and dialogic practices, highlighting their impact on student engagement, development of transversal skills and improvement of social inclusion. The reflection also focuses on the concept of distributed leadership, which promotes an educational community capable of integrating school, family and locality in a participatory and co-built formative process. Teachers emerge as facilitators of know-how, reflective practitioners and transformative intellectuals, capable of guiding students towards an active and conscious citizenship. Finally, the article underlines the importance of teachers' continuing training in order to promote a pedagogy oriented towards dialogue, creativity and building essential skills to tackle the challenges of complexity.

Research in social and cognitive sciences has used the construal-level theory (CLT) of psychological distance as a framework for understanding environmental challenges, such as climate change. This primer explains how psychological distance and construal level theory can help to understand responses to environmental challenges, from the perceptions and social construction of environmental issues as distant and abstract, to implications for decision making and action toward long-term targets. We also reflect on areas where the theory and concepts are less useful, when assuming that psychological distance and construal level can be easily reduced or altered to promote lasting changes to environmental action.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the serial mediation function of employee involvement and organizational commitment on the influence of leadership style and workplace well-being on employee performance at the Satpol PP and WH offices in the South Aceh Regency. The population in this study were all employees of the Satpol PP and WH offices of South Aceh Regency, amounting to 110 people. The sampling technique used for data collection was carried out a census sampling technique, namely, the entire population was sampled. Data processing was carried out using SPSS and ADOs software using the structural equation model (SEM) technique. The results showed that of the six tested direct hypotheses, all of them showed a significant effect, except for one hypothesis. although the magnitude of the coefficient differs from one hypothesis to another. The insignificant effect is between the influence of leadership style on employee performance.

This study analyzed the influence of ethics education and love of money on student perceptions of accounting in preparing the financial statements. The study population, the entire accounting student at the State University (PTN) in Makassar. Sampling was purposive sampling method, and is chosen, students who have already taken courses and professional ethics. Methods of data collection in this study, is a questionnaire, after the data is collected and analyzed by SPSS. In conclusion, there is no influence of variables and students&#39; perceptions of ethics education in the preparation of financial statements. In the working world, the personality of a worker or employee is one of the crucial things to know. Personality can be seen from various things, including behavior patterns, to understand better how someone acts in certain situations. This study looks at the MCDL Day's Instrument as a personality measurement tool compared to the Papikostick test. This research method uses a cross-sectional quantitative approach. The research subjects were 235 people aged 17-34 years. The reliability test used a composite score. The validity test used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and concurrent criteria. The results showed that the reliability test of the composite score is 0.616 with the results of the CFA loading factor 0.30 with 18 valid items and four dimensions explaining 23% of the variables. For the criteria validity, there is no significant relationship between the MCDL Day's instrument and the dimensions in Papikostick.

In the context of decreased demand for whole blood and increased demand for plasma‐derived products, donors in Australia are increasingly being asked to convert from whole‐blood to plasmapheresis donations. Plasmapheresis is a different type of donation to whole blood as the process takes longer and can be engaged in more frequently. What is unknown is whether whole‐blood donors view donating plasma as consistent with their donor identity and how they respond to the possibility of donating more frequently. To explore this, we undertook semistructured telephone interviews with 26 whole‐blood donors who had recently made their first plasma donation. Findings indicated that whereas donating plasma was viewed as a bigger ask than donating whole blood, the former was viewed as consistent with their identity as a donor because both behaviours were seen to benefit others and self and were located within the same institutional context. Aim: This study investigated young people's experiences of drinking alcohol to identify ways a cultural shift in drinking practices could be measured. Methods: Three sets of 'integrated groups' consisting of several focus groups followed by a forum including all groups (n=63) investigated participants' drinking places, people, attitudes to intoxication and influences on drinking. Iterative data analysis identified cultural artefacts described in the focus groups that explained drinking practices and expectations of young people when they drank alcohol. Results: Key findings were that participants identified intoxication by behaviours, acceptability of intoxication varies according to the event, social media plays an important role in constructing drinking practices and supporting intoxication; and non-drinkers create discomfort in drinking networks. Changes in the acceptability of intoxication could indicate a cultural shift in drinking practices. Drunken behaviours could be used as cultural artefacts to develop indicators of alcohol culture. Measuring the acceptability of intoxication across a range of situations is possible but needs to be tested.

It was aimed to evaluate the relationship between the narcissism of mothers and the temperament of children which is an important age for personality development. Sample consisted of mothers who wanted to participate in the study and could be reached by using social media (n =470). Young adult mothers with less education living in nuclear families appear to Pathological Narcissism Inventory score higher. The Temperament Scale for Childeren scores of mothers aged 26-35 years were found to be statistically significantly higher than other mothers. The relationship between mothers' narcissism and their children's temperament was found to be significant. It has been observed that there is a relationship between narcissism of mothers and temperaments of children.

Traditional classroom enrollment continues to decline from 14.4 million in 2010 to 4.1 million by 2015 (Nagel, 2011). The prediction of post-secondary students taking classes online will increase by 25 million by 2015 (Nagel, 2011). The purpose of the research was to determine if international students also choose forms of distant learning for the same reasons that U.S. students would choose any form of distant learning. The authors designed and developed a survey instrument similar to Perrault (2005) study in order to gather responses from 686 U.S. graduate students enrolled in six graduate programs in a private state-wide university. Additionally, 274 international students at various colleges from graduate and undergraduate programs were surveyed. The students surveyed were Icelandic, Caribbean, South American (classified Latin), Serbian, and Chinese. More than 50% of U.S. students' taking online courses have positive feedback about online courses and programs which and their feedback has progressively changed in a 10 year period. As the research of students' perception of online degrees has changed in the U.S. there is also a favorable support of online programs from students in different countries. The international perspective of Latin, Chinese, and Icelandic students was even more favorable than those of the U.S. students. However the population of Serbian students reported less favorable feedback about online programs. Overall, out of the 6 populations studied, 5 recommend online classes and that is 83% of the populations surveyed favor online education.

If sincere attempts at political persuasion are central to the functioning of democracy, then what attributes of individuals make them more persuasive toward fellow citizens? To examine this, we asked 594 Democrats and Republicans to write politically persuasive arguments on any topic of their choice and then gave those arguments to a US representative sample of 3,131 to rate the persuasiveness, totaling 54,686 judgments. We consistently found that arguments written by women, liberals, the intellectually humble, and those low on party identification were rated as more persuasive. These patterns were robust to controls for the demographics and partisanship of judges and persuaders, the topics written about, argument length, and the emotional sentiments of the arguments. Women&#39;s superior persuasiveness was partially, but not fully, explained by the fact that their arguments were longer, of a higher grade level, and expressed less dominance than men&#39;s. The quasi-fission mechanism hinders fusion of heavy systems because of a mass flow between the reactants, leading to a re-separation of more symmetric fragments in the exit channel. A good understanding of the competition between fusion and quasi-fission mechanisms is expected to be of great help to optimize the formation and study of heavy and superheavy nuclei. Quantum microscopic models, such as the time-dependent Hartree-Fock approach, allow for a treatment of all degrees of freedom associated to the dynamics of each nucleon. This provides a description of the complex reaction mechanisms, such as quasi-fission, with no parameter adjusted on reaction mechanisms. In particular, the role of the deformation and orientation of a heavy target, as well as the entrance channel magicity and isospin are investigated with theoretical and experimental approaches.

Bilateral cervical facet dislocation is a rare injury resulting from headfirst shallow water diving accidents. Accurate diagnosis, prompt management, precise intervention, and aggressive rehabilitation can lead to a favourable neurologic and functional outcome for cervical spine injuries. In this case, we present a young adolescent patient who experienced bilateral facet dislocation of C4/C5, resulting in incomplete central cord syndrome neurological deficits (American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) Impairment Scale C) due to a dangerous shallow water diving accident. The patient subsequently underwent emergency posterior instrumentation and decompression for stabilization and rehabilitation. Immediately following the surgery, he exhibited substantial neurologic recovery and was able to walk independently after six months. This case is unique not only for its rarity but also because it involved a young adolescent, highlighting the need for increased awareness and preventive measures to reduce the risk of dangerous shallow water diving accidents.

Problematyka niniejszego artykułu z jednej strony reprezentuje interdyscyplinarną refleksję nad komunikacją międzykulturową, a z drugiej jest próbą odczytania i rozważenia tego fenomenu w kontekście ludzkiej duchowości. Dla osiągnięcia tego celu wybrałam współczesną teorię komunikacji międzykulturowej autorstwa Young Yun Kim i Brenta D. Rubena, koncentrującą się na ujęciu komunikacji przez pryzmat procesów i zdarzeń zachodzących w jednostce. Perspektywa jednostkowa nakreślona w tej koncepcji, a przy tym szeroko odwołująca się do ustaleń psychologicznych, pozwala moim zdaniem na rozważenie jej związków z psychologiczną kategorią duchowości. This study determined the learning support of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries towards the educational competence in Viray-Lising Integrated School, Polomolok West District, Schools Division of South Cotabato. It utilized a descriptivecorrelational design to ascertain the extent of learning support concerning parenting, communication, volunteering, home learning, decision-making, and community collaboration, alongside the educational competence of learner beneficiaries. The study's respondents comprised fifty-five (55) parents of 4Ps beneficiaries. Furthermore, the mean was employed to assess the level of educational competence of the learners. Meanwhile, the Pearson r moment correlation was employed to examine the relationship between the two variables. Additionally, a thematic analysis was employed to classify the responses of the FGD participants, which ultimately corroborate the quantitative findings. The study revealed that the extent of parental learning support concerning the specified domains was great. Accordingly, the learners demonstrated a satisfactory degree of academic proficiency. Consequently, the results indicated an insignificant association between the two variables. Additionally, three themes emerged: basic necessities, educational support, and inspiring change. Finally, an intervention program was established to augment the parental educational support for the beneficiaries of the 4Ps, aimed at improving the learners' academic competence.

Organizational success is primarily dependent on the employees’ behaviours. Besides the job roles organizations always ask for the extra role behaviours to be performed by the employees. Therefore, they give some intrinsic benefits to the employees. Bearing in mind the importance of OCBs the current study has attempted to examine the role of performance focused HRM practices towards fostering the organizational citizenship behaviours among employees. Furthermore, the study has also considered work engagement and psychological climate as a potential mediator which also contribute towards the organization citizenship behaviours. Nesse estudo, indaga-se em que medida a inserção no trabalho associado no campo da economia solidária está contribuindo para alterar as desvantagens históricas enfrentadas pelas mulheres, negras e não negras, presentes em outras modalidades de trabalho. Para tanto, manuseia-se um banco de dados, constituído pelos/as sócios/as que declararam ser o trabalho remunerado a sua principal atividade nos empreendimentos de economia solidária, selecionando variáveis para correlacionar com os atributos de gênero e raça à situação do trabalho. O estudo explicitou as desigualdades, a partir da perspectiva interseccional, que se reproduzem em espaços que são marcados por uma sociabilidade em que não impera a lógica mercantil, mas, ainda assim, é refém das relações desiguais constituídas historicamente. Cyberphysical systems connect physical devices and large private network environments in modern communication systems. A fundamental worry in the establishment of large private networks is mitigating the danger of transactional data privacy breaches caused by adversaries using a variety of exploitation techniques. This study presents a privacy-preserving architecture for ensuring the privacy and security of transaction data in large private networks. The proposed model employs digital certificates, RSA-based public key infrastructure, and the blockchain to address user transactional data privacy concerns. The model also guarantees that data in transit remains secure and unaltered and that its provenance remains authentic and secure during node-to-node interactions within a large private network. The proposed model has increased the encryption speed by about 17 times, while the decryption process is expedited by 4 times. Therefore, the average overall acceleration obtained was 16.5. ...

This paper argues the importance of preparing business managers for a global marketplace and addresses who is responsible for the training and how to go about it. The establishment of an MBA (Master of Business AdLinistration)-level course in intercultural communication is examined. Areas discussed involve determining what the goals of the course should be, selecting textbooks and readings, selecting guest speakers, selecting films and videotapes, and involving students in the learning process. In addition, thoughts concerning the evaluation of student achievement are offered in light of the course's lack of performance-based examinations. It is noted that communication-based preparation for the workplace and so-called soft-skills training in both undergraduate and MBA degree programs is being increasingly valued, and that the value of this type of intercultural communication course lies in better preparing students to face the realities of the world they will enter after graduation. Grounded by Arthur Chickering's Student Development Theory, this banded dissertation uses an ecological framework to examine trends in higher education and the importance of intercultural development, trauma-informed care, and contemplative pedagogy to promote a holistic approach to higher education. While exploring student development, the goal was to develop a conceptual framework that utilizes contemplative practice to foster intercultural development and attend to students' personal experiences with trauma by using contemplative practices. The first article, Social Work Education and Trauma-Informed Contemplative Pedagogy, bridges the literature on trauma-informed care and contemplative practices and introduces trauma-informed contemplative pedagogy as a model for social work education. Noted to improve self-awareness, mediate practice and content related stress, and have positive implications for metacognitive and critical thinking skills, contemplative practices are particularly relevant in social work education. As students prepare to work in an increasingly global context, the necessity of intercultural competence is more urgent than ever. This is a call to action for faculty in preprofessional programs like social work where intercultural development and competence is essential to effective and ethical practice. The second article, Intercultural Development and Social Work Education in a Liberal Arts Context, examined pre and post test results for an intercultural development inventory among students enrolled in an undergraduate social work program. Finally, the presentation Cultivating a Trauma-Informed Contemplative Pedagogy, highlighted the importance of disciplinary focus, institutional context, and student iii demographics. This presentation invited a multidisciplinary audience to consider the ways in which educators can integrate contemplative practices to create trauma-informed teaching environments that attend to the ways in which students' personal histories intersect with course content. Trauma-Informed Contemplative Pedagogy was presented as a method of teaching relevant to a range of disciplines. Social work has a long tradition of drawing on ecological theory and knowledge from many fields of study in building the unique person-in-environment perspective. Grounded by well developed theories of practice and emerging research on contemplative practices, intercultural development and trauma-informed care, social worker educators are keenly positioned to be leaders in twenty-first century liberal education.
