Entre 1496 e 1497, as comunidades judaicas desapareceram formalmente de Portugal, fugidas ou convertidas à força, em consequência do édito promulgado por D. Manuel. As judiarias perderam assim propósito enquanto espaços de segregação, sofrendo mutações que permanecem lacunares na historiografia portuguesa. Esta dissertação analisa os impactos do Édito de Expulsão (1496) nos bairros judaicos medievais, particularmente no caso da Judiaria Nova de Évora. Pretendo averiguar como este espaço foi apropriado pelos diversos grupos sociais, as alterações funcionais e morfológicas e os processos de assimilação/desaparecimento da memória judaica que sofreu. Cruzarei fontes materiais, considerando a composição atual desse segmento urbano, com fontes escritas constantes em chancelarias régias; documentação municipal; processos-crime da Inquisição; e registos de propriedade, inventários e contratos das instituições que possuíam bens no dito bairro. Adotarei uma cronologia compreendida entre 1408 e 1550, enquadrando a judiaria eborense e visando compreender as transformações que sofreu pós-expulsão.

Questo volume collettaneo è l'esito di un' Assemblea pubblica, che abbiamo chiamato "Confluenze", con la quale abbiamo avviato un'importante discussione collettiva sui problemi della nostra città e sulle possibili soluzioni, Cosenza, proponendo l'avvio di un processo di autogoverno e di collaborazione tra studiosi, professionisti e cittadini. Ci piacerebbe che questo lavoro diventasse uno strumento utile per costruire una città più bella e più equa.

This article contains an edition, translation and commentary of an Old Frisian text which forms part of a larger complex which was discovered last year in the National Library of Austria. It concerns a small collection of so-called Excerpta Legum material, dating from the 15th century. This tradition arose in the modern province of Fryslân shortly after 1400. It showed a massive reception of Canon and Roman law into Frisian indigenous law. The five paragraphs of the text edited here are compared to the larger tradition that has been handed down. This small collection yields some interesting insights into its development.

Approaching with method to the problem of dissipation of non-renewable energy and, in general, environmental pollution is now an imperative condition at the international level. This issue concerns not only the new urban settlements but also the historic cities, with all the difficulties arising from the need for transformations resulting by retrofitting in the historical heritage. In the range of the difficult dichotomy between conservation and innovation, the historical city must address the complex path of the research of an equilibrium between its own essence and the new modernity needs along with a development in line with the environmental sustainability . HoMER 2025 Pre-Conference Graduate Workshop:
Microhistories from Beyond the Screen: Other Stories, Other Sites
Across the history of cinema, what’s on the screen has often taken center stage, but the stories that surround it, circulate behind it, and spill out beyond the auditorium often remain untold. This graduate workshop explores the overlooked spatial and material dimensions of cinema culture, by approaching cinema not only as a medium, but as a catalyst; a generative core around which infrastructures are built, spaces are activated, and new practices emerge. Whether as the reason for constructing a theater, or the force behind archives, rental stores, or storage rooms, film generates infrastructures that live on, to be reused, reinhabited, or reconfigured across time.
Taking inspiration from the New Cinema History literature, this workshop foregrounds microhistory as both a method and a critical stance. A growing body of research has demonstrated how close attention to local exhibition practices, subaltern audiences, and non-canonical venues can reconfigure dominant narratives in cinema history (Thissen, 2019; Biltereyst & Meers, 2020; Gennari & Culhane, 2019; Şavk, Çam & Şanlier, 2025). Microhistory’s commitment to the fragmentary and the situated invites us to ask: What happens when we shift focus away from national narratives or auteurist frameworks, and instead consider a single movie theater, a marginal archive, or a fleeting moment of interruption?
These inquiries resonate with perspectives in architectural and urban history, where buildings are increasingly understood not as static containers but as adaptive structures shaped by conflict, negotiation, and alternative use (Till, 2009; Chattopadhyay, 2023). Architectural programs often drift from their intended purpose, and cities function not only through monumental form but through improvised and networked infrastructures that support events across multiple, interlinked sites (Simone, 2004; Graham & Marvin, 2001). Just as a cinema might serve as a shelter, archive, or assembly hall, so too do urban spaces reorganize themselves to hold the ephemeral weight of public experience.
This workshop invites contributions that pursue one of two parallel trajectories:
First strand focuses on movie theaters as sites of “other” happenings: moments when the cinema space was not only a site of exhibition but also of political meetings, refuge, religious ritual, protest, cultural negotiation, or even crime and harassment. Such spaces, in moments of scarcity, conflict, or transformation, have often taken on hybrid functions, becoming stages for crisis, solidarity, or improvisation. We are interested in microhistories of the cinema as a social architecture: lived-in, transformed, and contested.
The second strand turns to cinematic spaces outside the movie theater: the infrastructure that enables cinema to happen at all. From shooting locations and sound stages to editing rooms, labs, archives, and storage spaces, these environments are often peripheral to scholarship but central to film’s material life. Recent work has drawn attention to the architectural and industrial histories of production environments, as well as the invisible labor of technicians, engineers, and preservationists (Jacobson, 2020; Marzola, 2021). These spaces offer an alternative map of cinema: one traced through labor, logistics, spatial design, and maintenance, rather than spectacle alone.
Framed within the broader theme of HoMER 2025: Cinema and Conflict, this workshop invites short presentations that trace microhistories of other stories and other sites of cinema. We welcome particular attention to the methodological frictions these cases may reveal, where the archive is partial, sources are unstable, and the process of writing history becomes entangled with its conditions of possibility.

Carapace is a digital reconstruction of the case of the giant tortoise Cylindraspis vosmaeri, extinct at the end of the 18th century. The species was endemic to Rodrigues, a small island of 103 km2 located 348 miles east of Madagascar, in the Mascarene archipelago. Since the beginning of the 18th century, the natural history of the place has been known thanks to the memoirs of the Huguenot shipwreck survivor François Leguat. In the Anthropocene era, Carapace is a sign of the fragility of life, of disappearance and predation and restores visibility, through a temporal inversion, to the ecological modifications brought about by humans. From oblivion, the sculpture transfers the missing animal into a metaphorical form of the incarnation of an interiority, questioning individual and collective memories and the influences between science, literature, the arts and new technologies. Inside the Embrice Gallery, the installation is located in a small space covered in wooden slats, with the aim of suggesting the environment of the tortoise boats, the vessels used to deport turtles to nearby islands.
The extermination for commercial purposes continued for decades, also justified by the mistaken belief that the meat of the turtles was an antidote to the scurvy contracted by sailors. The translucent resin carapace is preserved in a plexiglass case mounted on a kitchen table, a domestic object with prosaic and at the same time disturbing meanings. The space is illuminated by two lightboxes, whose digital images simulate the sunrise and sunset of a timeless day in a hypothetical Rodrigues. In the layered images, sections of the coast and the seabed emerge, where a sort of primordial algae appear, the result of the transformation of the map of the island. The landscapes are created by superimposing and transforming elements taken from Leguat’s illustrations and fragments of natural and artificial virtual patterns with a sensitive research on the theme of atmospheres.

В статье рассматривается освоение новых культурных практик населением на примере виноторговли в Сергиевском посаде конца XVIII -начала XIX в. Демонстрируется освоение новых культурных форм досуга в сфере услуг и изменения в образе жизни. Законодательно закрепленное распределение спиртных напитков за разными типами заведений виноторговли означало одновременное закрепление за каждым типом культурных практик. Традиционная для России практика продажи простого хлебного вина без всяких закусок осуществлялась только в кабаках и питейных домах, предназначенных исключительно для простонародья (крестьян в лаптях). Специфика этой торговли предъявляла самые минимальные требования к самим помещениям, уровню обслуживания посетителей. В заведениях нового европейского типа (трактирах, гербергах) все было иначе: категория посетителей, внутреннее убранство, ассортимент напитков (алкогольных, слабоалкогольных и безалкогольных), наличие закусок, сервировка, а для развлечения -бильярд. Они были, говоря современным языком, культурно-досуговыми центрами. В повседневной жизни стремление повысить уровень продаж приводило к стиранию жестких сословных перегородок, снимало ограничения для имевших средства и желание представителей простонародья, охотно посещавших не предназначенные для них заведения. Происходило естественное освоение новых культурных практик широкими слоями населения.

In 1517, Perugia faced a military threat from Francesco Maria Della Rovere. To prepare for a potential siege, city authorities ordered the demolition of homes and sections of the city walls in specific strategic areas, making way for temporary defensive bastions built in brick and stone over the following two decades. While most scholarship focuses on the later construction of the Rocca Paolina fortress in the 1540s, which permanently altered the urban landscape of Perugia by obliterating a central and densely populated neighborhood, the impact of these earlier demolitions on the city’s urban fabric has been largely overlooked. This study delves into this traumatic event and its lasting consequences, utilizing unpublished documents, city records, and visual sources.

RESUMEN Pedro de Medina, tesorero de la Iglesia de Cartagena, ordenó la construcción de las casas de los beneficiados magistrales de la iglesia de Santiago de Villena después de 1522. Las “casas del Tesorero”, destacaron por su estilo renacentista. Este estudio, basado en fuentes inéditas, amplía la información sobre la obra hasta la actualidad, precisando cronología, promotores y artífices. En 1627, tras décadas de intentos fallidos desde 1564, el ayuntamiento las adquirió para instalar el pósito y otras dependencias, como el archivo y la sala de reuniones. El edificio fue destruido en la Guerra de Sucesión, y desde 1711 reconstruido con la participación de oficiales municipales y supervisión de los capitulares y comisarios de obras. Las ideas academicistas y restauradoras también influyeron en su evolución. El inmueble, de gran valor histórico y artístico, define gran parte del paisaje cultural urbano de la ciudad.

ABSTRACT Pedro de Medina, treasurer of the Church of Cartagena, had houses built in the Renaissance style for the incumbent canons of the Church of Santiago in Villena after 1522. This study, based on previously unpublished sources, expands the information available on this project with details on the timeline, patrons, master builders and tradespeople involved. In 1627, following decades of failed attempts since 1564, the town council acquired the houses and installed its public granary, archive and meeting hall in them. The building was heavily damaged in the War of the Spanish Succession and was rebuilt from 1711 onwards, with participation from municipal officials and supervision from councillors and works coordinators. Academicist and restorative ideas also influenced its development. This historically and artistically valuable building is a major defining feature of the town’s urban cultural landscape.

Informal settlements, often emerging on the fringes of rapidly urbanizing cities, represent a complex paradox of human resilience and systemic neglect. These densely populated neighbourhoods, characterized by makeshift housing and precarious living conditions, are home to millions of people worldwide who seek refuge from rural poverty, conflict, or the soaring costs of formal urban housing.
While they are frequently stigmatized as symbols of urban decay, informal settlements also embody the ingenuity and solidarity of marginalized communities navigating the challenges of survival.
The path forward lies not in erasing informality but in recognizing its potential as a catalyst for inclusive, sustainable urban futures. In doing so, societies can honour the resilience of informal settlement dwellers while dismantling the systems that perpetuate their marginalisation

The article explores the emergence of the cult of Archbishop Rainer of Split, focusing specifically on how his legacy was shaped in the narrative of Thomas the Archdeacon. Rather than examining the archbishopric’s estates or the glorification of the Church of Split, the author centers the investigation on the figure of Rainer himself and the storytelling techniques employed by Thomas. By analyzing Thomas’ report, the study aims to gain deeper insight into both Rainer’s historical image and Thomas’ worldview and narrative method.

This historical study investigates the methods and approaches utilized by Ken’ân Rifâî (1867-1950) to manage the social demands and complexities of Late Ottoman society by concentrating on his various roles as a Sufi sheikh and bureaucrat within the perceived conflicted urban spaces of office and the conventional sufi lodge institution through the everyday life studies perspectives. Examining his daily routines and practices in Istanbul during the Second Constitutional Era (1908-1918), this research accentuates his nuanced synthesis, mirrored his selective adoption amidst the confluence of Western and conventional components. The main objective of our inquiry is to explore how Rifâî has effectively integrated administrative ethos and Sufi principles within the involved socio- spatial setting of the early 20th-century Ottoman capital. As focal points of spiritual and cultural activity, his Sufi lodge (Ummu Ken’ân dergâhı) and his mansion (konak) depict his endeavors to reconcile sufi customs with contemporary developments and thus have served as a microcosm of broader social changes in urban life. By delving into the ordinary moments of Rifâî’s life, we see a man who adeptly navigated his era’s challenges, integrating traditional wisdom with modern pragmatism while utilizing everyday practices to negotiate his position within a rapidly changing society.

A s early as 1834, when the town of York was incorporated as the city of Toronto, city officials were discussing the need for an accurate map. 1 The Surveyor General, James Chewett, produced the first official map of the city in June 1834. The map simply plotted the existing city streets and the park lots that extended from the harbour, on the south, to the northern boundary of the city (Lot or Queen Street). At this early date a set of four watercolour views representing the architecture of Toronto was also produced. These images by architect Thomas Young, which were later lithographed by Nathaniel Currier, included an overall view of the city and views of the second parliament buildings, Upper Canada College, and King Street (the main thoroughfare of the city). For several years I have had the pleasure of delving into the history of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, concentrating on the first quarter of the twentieth century and providing, when appropriate, historical background to make my discussions clearer. Although my research and writing are ongoing, I have decided to make available drafts of a number of topics which I have explored at length, with the hope that the material presented will prove helpful to many readers. I would request that credit be given if my findings are used by other writers or those making oral presentations. As my study has proceeded, many people have been helpful and, hopefully, I will be able to thank all of them during the course of my writing. At this point, let me mention just a few who have been especially supportive. Many thanks to the Trustees of Bridgewater's Public Library for allowing me free access to the sources in the town's library, made easier by the aid given to me by the research librarians under the competent direction of Mary O'Connell. Thanks to the skillful and time-consuming work of David R. Moore, Chairman of Bridgewater's Historical Commission, over 500 historical pictures, including many found in the two earlier works, have now been digitized and placed on one computer disc, labeled the Rizer Collection, creating an historical treasure easily accessible to those interested in the town's rich heritage. I will continue to include pictures from this collection in future essays. In addition to making use of the Rizer Collection, readers will note that three other features are more prominent in this essay on firefighting, the sixth, so far, in my ongoing study: Bridgewater, Massachusetts: A Town in Transition.* Footnotes frequently cite one of my first five studies, allowing readers and, indeed, myself to cross reference relevant material. I have also included more subject matter references, perhaps violating at times the dictum that if historical facts are not important enough to include in the text, they should not be in a footnote. Since I have done a great deal of research on a variety of topics dealing with Bridgewater's history, I have on occasion informed my readers of my intentions to write about some of them in the future. Vom reconstrui, pas cu pas, acest mozaic al unei epoci: clădirile care au modelat spațiul public, administrația care a dat formă și ordine, școlile care au luminat mințile, bisericile care au sprijinit comunitatea, familiile care au lăsat urme în arhive și în memorie. Vom descoperi cum s-a ridicat turnul de apă, cum s-a organizat rețeaua de canalizare, cine a fost în fruntea primăriei și ce idealuri purtau dascălii vremii. Vom cerceta, cu grijă și respect pentru adevăr, urmele lăsate de o generație care a visat un altfel de Drăgășani – unul curat, educat, demn de un viitor strălucit ce avea să domnească peste veacuri.

El primer convento de la Orden de las Carmelitas descalzas en el Nuevo Mundo se fundó en 1604. Varias razones confluyeron para su posterior afianzamiento y exitosa expansión. Una de éstas obedeció a la necesidad de proporcionar espacios de clausura para las descendientes de españoles. Otro elemento decisivo tuvo que ver con la rápida beatificación de Teresa de Jesús en 1614. Cuatro años después, una reliquia del brazo de la Santa llegó al convento en Puebla e inspiró a catorce religiosas a tener visiones. Éstas fueron descritas en 22 páginas que conforman el manuscrito analizado en este estudio. Estas descripciones reafirmaron las ideas teológicas del cristocentrismo enmarcadas por la mística y la ascética del barroco.

The first convent of the Carmelite Order for women in the New World was founded in 1604. Among the reasons for its rapid consolidation and successful expansion in New Spain [Mexico] was the need to create cloistered communities for women of Spanish descent, but the quick beatification of Teresa de Jesus in 1614 was a second important contributing factor. Four years later, a relic from Santa Teresa’s arm arrived at the convent in Puebla, and fourteen nuns experienced visions inspired by it. These events were recorded in the 22-page manuscript analyzed in this study, whose descriptions reaffirmed theological ideas related to Christocentrism, framed by mysticism and the aesthetics of the early Baroque period.

Peninggalan sejarah dan purbakala sebagai salah satu potensi yang dimiliki oleh suatu daerah, perlu dilakukan inventarisasi agar potensi situs peninggalan purbakala di daerah tersebut dapat diketahui. Pendataan atau inventarisasi itu meliputi pencatatan, pendokumentasian (foto} dan penggambaran situs. Pencatatan itu meliputi aspek-aspek peninggalan purbakala tersebut, berupa situs, lokasi, periodisasi dan catatan tentang aspek-aspek arkeologis dan historis suatu situs. Temasuk dalam kegiatan ini, adalah flatting situs dalam peta wilayah (Kecamatan atau Kawasan). Tulisan ini, merupakan langkah awal dalam upaya pelestarian situs peninggalan sejarah dan purbakala. Data situs tersebut, akan menjadi acuan dasar dalam upaya pengambilan keputusan atau kebijaksanaan terhadap upaya pelestarian situs peninggalan purbakala dan pemanfaatannya kedepan baik sebagai objek wisata budaya, maupun sebagai upaya pelestarian nilai dan identitas masyarakat dan sejarah Soppeng.

У раду се на основу архивске грађе, штампе, објављених извора и релевантне литературе анализира процес успостављања прве и једине редовне субвенционисане прекоокеанске паробродске линије у Краљевини Југославији – између њених и лука у Јужној Америци. Десетогодишњи уговор о одржавању ове линије држава је потписала 1930. године са највећим домаћим поморским предузећем Југословенским лојдом. Вишегодишње одлагање доношења коначне одлуке, различити ставови у владама, понуде друштава, пре свега британског Кунард лајна, утицај јавности и други фактори који су утицали на ток и исход овог процеса указују на поједине елементе саобраћајне, трговачке, финансијске, (спољно)политичке и исељеничке политике југословенске државе.

Between 1435 and 1437, while Pope Eugene IV was engaged in diplomatic negotiations with the Byzantine Empire in preparation for the Union of Ferrara-Florence (1438-1439), he dispatched the Franciscan Albert of Sarteano, a close relative of Bernardino of Siena, to Jerusalem with the objective of promoting the Observant reform, establishing contacts with Eastern Christianities, and supporting the Franciscan presence in the Holy Land through the dissemination of his letters. However, no evidence of Sarteano’s mission can be found in the archives of the Franciscan Holy Land Custody. In lieu of this there is a hujja, a legal document issued from the qāḍī’s court. The document records the Franciscan custodian’s endeavors to obtain authorization for the restoration of the Mount Sion convent, which was in danger of falling into ruin. This raises questions about the role of the Custody, notably in the internal conflict within the Franciscan order between Observants and Conventuals, as well as in the universal claims of the Papacy. Additionally, however, it illustrates that the concerns of the friars of Mount Sion were distinct from the preoccupations of Franciscans in the Latin West and instead directed towards the Bilād al-Shām (literally ‘the left-hand-region’ i.e., Greater Syria, spanning current Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Palestine) and the Mamluk authorities who established the conditions for their presence in the Holy Places, with Jerusalem and its shrines being of paramount importance. Thus, this episode and the three years it occupies provide evidence of the reverberations of internal debates within the order on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the day-to-day lives of the Franciscans, who were fully engaged in Middle Eastern society. Finally, Sarteano’s letters as well as the hujja demonstrate the significance of Jerusalem to Westerners, the Pope, and the Franciscan order, as well as to those who lived there on a daily basis under Mamluk sovereignty.

Sono particolarmente lieto di salutare la pubblicazione del volume su S. Antoniello a Port'Alba, attuale sede della Biblioteca di Ricerca del Polo delle Scienze Umane e Sociali, curato dall'Architetto Aldo Pinto e dalla Prof.ssa Adriana Valerio. Il complesso di S. Antoniello a Port'Alba conserva i segni di una stratificazione plurisecolare, dal tratto di mura greche del V e IV sec. a.C., riscoperto e reso visitabile senza intaccare la funzionalità del complesso, alle numerose testimonianze dei secoli successivi. In alcuni spazi fino al 1987 si è svolta una intensa attività scolastica ed educativa. A dispetto delle tante traversie occorse nei secoli, il complesso di S. Antoniello a Port'Alba ha recuperato la propria dignità grazie all'intesa del 1987 tra il Comune di Napoli e l'Università. L'iniziativa avviata dai miei predecessori Carlo Ciliberto e Fulvio Tessitore è stata ora portata a compimento con la recente apertura al pubblico della Biblioteca. L'Università si è fatta carico di tale impegnativo compito attraverso la propria struttura tecnica. A fronte dei gravi problemi che si presentavano essa ha saputo, grazie all'opera di progettazione ed esecuzione portata avanti in collaborazione con illustri docenti, riportare all'antico splendore un complesso monumentale di straordinaria importanza. L'operazione è stata resa possibile anche dalla stretta collaborazione con le altre amministrazioni interessate: il Comune di Napoli e le tre Soprintendenze con i funzionari preposti all'Alta Sorveglianza, Arch. This article has two goals: first, it aims to solve a mystery in Yiddish studies by identifying the previously unknown author of one of the earliest Eastern European modern literary texts in Yiddish, and reconstructing the historical context in which he wrote the text. Second, it will show how this archival-biographical discovery sheds new light on the history of Eastern European Jews during the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815) as well as on the rise of Haskalah literature. Finally, as the title of this article suggests, I will argue that there was a direct link between narration and denunciation, between the Austrian imperial interest in collecting insider information about the Jews and the turn to writing literature in Jewish languages.

In the second half of the 19th century, Italian local authorities adopted health plans, including in their budgets the cost of healthcare for indigents. Municipalities established the so-called “condotta farmaceutica”, in addition to the medical, obstetric and veterinary service. Some documents of the Municipality preserved at the State Archives of Bari allow us to outline the slow and challenging process of adapting this service to the needs of healthcare. The pharmaceutical service for the poors evolved over time: pharmacies were opened during both day and night, all areas of the city were covered and the service was extended during major emergencies. Additionally, archival documents highlight the conflicts between municipal and private pharmacists. The collection of the State Ar
chives of Bari is vast and sheds light on many aspects of the development of the municipal pharmaceutical services.

Durante o final do século XVIII e durante o século XIX tornou-se frequente a devoção e peregrinação, com estadia de novena para pagamento de promessas e votos, dos pescadores de Ílhavo e região de Aveiro, ao santuário do Senhor Jesus da Serra, situado em Semide, junto a Coimbra. Esta fervorosa devoção antecedeu as peregrinações ao santuário de Fátima, evento de aparição da Virgem em 1917 que suplantou a concorrida prática de culto a este lugar no cimo da serra do Ceira. A sua romaria ocorre anualmente de 15 a 23 de Agosto. Serve este artigo para documentar a prática devocional e pagamento de promessas e votos de pescadores de Ílhavo e região da ria de Aveiro.

During the end of the eighteenth century and during the nineteenth century, the devotion and pilgrimage of the fishermen of Ílhavo and the region of Aveiro, to the sanctuary of Senhor Jesus da Serra, located in Semide, near Coimbra, became frequent, with a novena stay for the payment of promises and vows.
This fervent devotion preceded the pilgrimages to the sanctuary of Fatima, an event of the apparition of the Virgin in 1917 that supplanted the crowded practice of worship to this place at the top of the Serra do Ceira. Its pilgrimage takes place annually from the 15th to the 23rd of August. This article serves to document the devotional practice and payment of promises and vows of fishermen from Ílhavo and the region of the Ria de Aveiro.

O objetivo do trabalho consistiu em compreender e registrar como a expulsão da escola de samba Vai-Vai, para a construção de uma estação de metrô, foi vivenciada pela comunidade identificada com esse importante lugar de memória do bairro paulistano do Bixiga. Como recurso metodológico, realizamos entrevistas em profundidade com seis atores sociais do bairro cujas histórias de vida estão ligadas ao samba e/ou a coletivos culturais do bairro. A análise, guiada pelo Modelo Analítico para Estudo da Consciência Política, de Salvador Sandoval (1994), deixa evidente o sentimento de injustiça presente na comunidade, que avalia que as perdas causadas à memória e à identidade do bairro poderiam ter sido evitadas.

The thesis explores tribunician activity between the years 103 and 88 B.C. Chapter I briefly surveys the background to this tribunician activity. Chapter II focuses on the first tribunate of L. Apuleius Saturninus, especially his novel utilisation of army veterans, his attempts to attract the support of various pressure groups and his growing unpopularity with the urban proletariat. Chapter III focuses of the activity of Saturninus in his second tribunate, leading to the major political crisis of that year and the novel use of the Senatus Consultum Ultimum against magistrates in office. Chapter IV deals with the aftermath. Chapter V examines the developing political program of M. Livius Drusus and draws out the theme of growing Italian involvement in Roman politics. Chapter VI looks at one way in which the Italian issue was utilized in 'party political' fashion. Chapter VII deals with the revolutionary proposals of P. Sulpicius (Rufus?). Each chapter also surveys the activities of all known tribunes in the relevant years.

La couleur sombre/brune que nous recherchions pour notre recherche étymologique se retrouve à tous les niveaux de notre étude : le castor, feber, a un fourrure grise. Les Lupercales se passent dans un lieu touffu, près d'une grotte sombre, et peut-être la nuit aux  temps originels du rituel, si le parallèle avec la Dolonie d'Homère s'applique à tout l'épisode. Les peaux de chèvres et de loups s'appellent elles aussi des « februa ».  La peau coupée en lanière pour « purifier » les femmes rappelle la queue de la peau du loup qui bat les flancs du cheval lors du songe de Rhésos. Le mois de février était lui-même l'un des plus sombres de l'année car il était situé à l'origine comme plusieurs auteurs l'indiquent juste après le solstice d'hiver . La mola salsa utilisée aux sacrifices des Lupercales devait être cuite pour la faire « dorer » et brunir. Junon Februata n'était pas « Junon la purifiée » mais plutôt Junon à qui on offrait les dépouilles des loups. Les animaux sacrifiés devaient être de couleur sombre pour deux raisons : c’était l'époque de la mauvaise saison, et certains « februa » étaient apportés aux morts. Enfin, le « dies februatus » mélangeait deux significations, la plus ancienne étant le jour où l'on revêt les peaux, et la plus récente  le jour de la purification

La recherche qui est à la base de cette communication a comme objectif regarder de près les premières expériences architecturales des coopératives d'habitation économique (CHE) conçues entre les années 70 | 80 au Portugal. Étant encore en fonctionnement, les CHE ont toujours constitué une alternative au marcher foncier et à l'habitation sociale menée par l'état, favorisant l'accession des populations à la propriété au moyen d'un engagement plus ou moins direct des futurs habitants. On cherchera à établir un rapport entre une démarche participative de production du logement et les concrétisations spatiales qui en ont résulté. L'étude des cas privilégie une approche à l'expérience concrète que les habitants maintiennent avec leurs logements, interprétée au moyen d'une méthode ethno | socio | architecturale qui s'appuie sur l'analyse des discours des habitants croisée avec un décryptage des espaces habités.

Unlike the regular collective housing buildings and the social housing production, we can presently say that the portuguese housing economic cooperatives (CHE) built in the seventies and in the eighties were able to structure urban territories as well as to promote a spatial and social diversity by the means of the architectural project.

Összefoglalás: A XIX. század előtti korokban csak kevesen engedhettek meg maguknak díszkertet, illetve dísznövények beszerzését és termesztését, az 1800-as évek elejétől azonban egyre nagyobb számban importáltak növényeket külföldről. A társadalom felsőbb rétegei, a kialakuló polgárság kezdett megismerkedni a tájképi kertekkel, melyek a kikapcsolódást és a pihenést szolgálják. A XIX. század utolsó harmadában alakultak ki az eklektikus tájképi kertek. Könyvtári és levéltári kutatómunkánk segítségével rávilágítunk a XIX. század második felének városfejlesztési törekvéseire, a kor kertészeti, utcafásítási és kertfenntartási viszonyaira a szegedi nagy árvíz utáni rekonstrukción keresztül.
